Gun Metal lets you take control of 'the Havoc Suit', a vehicle that transforms from mech to jet. You go through several missions, each with varying objectives: "Destroy all the enemies" or "Escort the convoy", pretty straightforward stuff. You'll have lots of fun blowing up various enemies, large and small, with you're wide array of weapons (you get a new weapon for each mission you complete) ranging from lasers to flak cannons to homing missiles. The transforming is really solid too. The controls are a little bit clunky, especially on a keyboard, but all the buttons can be remapped, so you can change things to your liking. The graphics are kinda old, but the various landscapes actually look pretty nice. I personally think it's a good shooter that'll keep you entertained for quite a while with all it's arcadey fun. The gameplay does get a little repetitive, but it's still enjoyable all the same. If you have some cash to spare, and some time to waste, I recommend picking up Gun Metal.
Old but fun sci-fi gamemahon | Jan. 17, 2014 | See all mahon's reviews »
Although it's a new release, the game is not really new. It's a good old game, which has simply been just released on Steam. The game is enjoyable even if it shows its age. The visuals are a bit rusty now and so is the sound. But the gameplay remains attractive for a fan of science fiction warfare, huge robots, armored combat suits, and such stuff. The game is also longer than many new releases, so for a fairly low price you are getting quite some fun and gaming time. If for any reason you haven't played Gun Metal back when it was released and are not scared away by its dated appearance, give it a try and have some good sci-fi fun!
Didn't stand the test of timeSganotak | Jan. 17, 2014 | See all Sganotak's reviews »
This is a 10+ year old game so don't expect much from it. It draws inspiration from Transformers as you control a huge mech that can transform to a jet at any time. The story is almost non existent and the game revolves around simple missions where you have to escort friendly units, protect your base or launch assaults at enemy bases. The mech and jet controls are pretty clunky and the targeting system can be unresponsive sometimes, also the game AI is pretty linear and always follows the same patterns. As you progress through the game, you will unlock a lot of new weapons and upgrades for you mech suit,. The weapon variety is very good and it is always fun to experiment with your loadout and try different combinations. Gun Metal was an average game at it's age and now it feels even more dated and hard to get into. However if you are a fan of Transformers and would like to play a game with simple missions, you can consider picking this up at a discounted price
