Reviews for APOX
Nice on paper, plays horriblysycomantis1991 | July 8, 2015 | See all sycomantis1991's reviews »
What drew me to this game is the gorgeous visuals. From snow to deserts, to guns to downed planes, it all looks gorgeous. Unfortunately, that's where the good ends. The gameplay is terrible, the interface is hard to navigate, and even when you get used to all that, it's boring at best as it's a horribly shallow game.

The best way to put it is that the game feels incomplete, rushed, and sometimes it's boring. You get the feeling of what was trying to be achieved but the creators just didnt hit the mark on it. It's not a bad game, but it is not something investing too much time into. Even at the cheap, discounted price, if you dont have a need to play it, dont.

Very strange game, this. I'm all in favour of smaller developers, but I can't help but get the feeling the team behind APOX got so excited about having made the basis of a game that they forgot to polish it to the point where players could derive enjoyment from actually playing it... and just released it. The whole thing just seems a long way short of ready in that rather hard to quantify way that I shall simply describe as "nothing feels right". The ammo and fuel supply systems are quite nice, but the pace at which they work just feels to slow. The complicated unit micro smacks of a load of ideas that sound cool on paper being implemented verbatim from the spec then never tweaked and battered into anything cohesive. The unit balance appears to have had a helping hand from rand(); , and the AI is very heavy on the Artificial and rather low on the Intelligence (with the former being a cheap attempt to make up for the latter). In short, avoid like the plague unless you're so heavily into RTS games that your live won't be complete without playing it, or are stuck with a choice of APOX or staring at blank wall.
mediocre RTS gameStefann | Oct. 3, 2012 | See all Stefann's reviews »
A RTS game that does not stand out from the rest. This game has a boring game play and is very repetitive. It looks more like a FPS game but the shooting is done by game characters. The AI is overpowered you will certainly loose against it, the background is just a boring yellowish-brown-grey landscape. Don't expect to much from this game. I've seen better balanced games AI <-> main characters. It is very frustrating that you get killed over and over and have to repeate the same boring mission. The game lacks of details, characters are drawn a little bit to simple.and game(-play) needs polishing. This game is for the really experienced RTS gamer. If you don't want an expensive RTS have the gaming, and are exited about the new setting, maybe then you will like this game.
Nice Concept, Boring GameUndeadRufus | July 30, 2012 | See all UndeadRufus's reviews »
The Mad Max-ish setting and general suite of ideas behind the game have a lot going for them. Unfortunately, the gameplay itself is bland. There's really no difference between factions. Graphics are meh -- much better in screenshots than they are in-game. Sound effects and animation are bottom-rung. Interface is clunky. Singleplayer mitigates the learning curve, and combat has the potential to be challenging, but it just isn't interesting. Even on sale, there are better RTS games for your money.
Extremely innovative and new RTS with too little done.LeafRunner | June 23, 2011 | See all LeafRunner's reviews »
The game, as said above, is extremely innovative and new, however it feels like so much more could be done with it. It suffers from extremely heavy polish issues, such as a awful HUD, bad, out of place sound, choppy units, but when you get down to the core game play it's very creative and tactical. They definitely could have done a lot more.
More from a fun concept that still hasn't been perfected.wakenbakejake | May 25, 2011 | See all wakenbakejake's reviews »
This game can be a decent stepping stone into RTS games for somebody wanting to begin playing them. It may also have the frustrating effect of turning that player off the genre. I say it can be good because there are few troops to manage, unlike other, more involved RTS. However, the game has a pretty steep learning curve, and some players may not want to take the time to learn it properly, wanting instead to just "jump into the action". I liked this game more than the Company of Heroes games, and once I got past the learning curve, did have a bit of fun with the game. Recently they added a patch which added a offline campaign mode, which makes the gameplay a bit easier to learn. Really, it will be a hit and miss with people. Some people will like it for some features, while others won't like it for those same reasons.
