Reviews for Virtual Families

A family simulation game with little to offer

Unlike The Sims, which is $20 more expensive, Virtual Families is bare-bones and stripped down to its very essentials. You'd be hard-pressed to find a game this basic and simple, even in the oversaturated shovelware market. Virtual Families isn't TERRIBLE. It does its job quite well. It does what it needs to do, which is simulate a virtual family. Although series such as The Sims arguably do it better, Virtual Family might need some time to grow in order to reach full potential. This is a solid casual simulation title, but do not expect anything beyond what is presented at face value.

Terrible spin-off The Sims...

Virtual Families is at first glance a simple Simulation Game that allows one to experience the life of various individuals, drawing heavily from The Sims Series. Unfortunately, VF does this awfully, and fails miserably. With very poor graphics, irritating camera and mouse controls and no reason to play when you have vastly superior other Sims on the market; the initiative to play this game is non-existent. I do not recommend this game, and never wish to play it again. That said, if you truly want this, then I'd question your decision but it's your money that you'll be spending.

Virtual Sims

Virtual Families is a game inspired from SIMS games by MAXIS, but is rather shallow and not as appealing. The good thing is, its cheaper and with a little less options, provide almost the same experience as a SIMS game. Infact it is a more focused game and you will start caring about your character as you spend more and more time with him. The bad thing though, game only lets you chose from pre-build template of character, although there are hundreds of them, still a character creation tool would have given it a much better appeal. Graphics are blocky and not realistic. But the look cute and adorable. There are also some puzzle solving challenges too. But basically we need to manage our Character's life. A great title for SIMS fan.

If you ever played The Sims before you will like this game. I say like because its not as good as the sims because theres not a lot of customization. You have to choose from pre made characters and live in a pre made house thats pre decorated. Aside from that this game is really fun. You can get married and have kids and pets. Have a job and so much more. It's made by the same people who made virtual villagers. So if you love that game, you will love this.

Nice Sim-style Family Simulation

Virtual Families comes from the developers of Virtual Villagers, and features a similar gameplay style. You are in charge of a character who can find romance, get married and have children. Graphics are not innovative; they are very similar to the Virtual Villagers saga, and continue with their bright colours and isometric perspective. Marriage in the game works in a similar way to dating websites, where you look at other characters' personalities and jobs in order to find the ideal combination. Once you have found the special one, you may move on to have children and other activities. The game also offers you the opportunity to earn achievements and accumulate wealth in order to prolong the challenge. AI seems somewhat unresponsive at times. You may drag your characters around to instruct them to perform certain tasks, but failing those tasks makes them change their activities. Interaction between characters is somewhat lacking; they will not chat to each other or attempt to spend time together, and their choices seem random. As a casual game, I would say it is quite entertaining. However, it probably needs a second iteration to be truly enjoyable.
