This is the Jane's Combat Simulations we all loved and known, I've loved in particular way Jane's Combat Simulations: Longbow 2 (included in the Longbow Anthology), how many memories, that game was brilliant in every aspect, the 1997 has been a magic year in the gaming field, I really miss those days. Let's get back to this game, well, there's not much to say, if you expected an accurate simulation you'll be disappointed, in this game the only thing you have from the past it's just the Jane name, nothing more, all what you'll have it's a mediocre arcade styled flight simulator, nothing less and nothing more. I've really hoped for a worthy modern successor of the Jane's Combat Simulations series, but the hope, most of the times, isn't enough.

The arcade flight simulator

JASF is the most arcadey flight simulator I have ever played, except maybe for Ace Combat, although I can't say I've played much of that. I would rather stick to HAWX, but if you really want to try some other flight game, I would recommend JASF as well. One awesome feature I've enjoyed was the co-op feature, but the campaign is very short and not very challenging. While there are a lot of jets to try out, the handling and feeling differs very little from one jet to another, and I'd go as far as to say some jets are visually different from other. But the handling is good, as long as you don't ask for a complex simulator, it's realy fun to fly around, to control the jet right above the ground, shooting tanks, jets and other... stuff. The graphics are mediocre though. I mean, I know good graphics don't make a good game, but this game's overall visuals are just bland, for some reason I can't get the antialiasing to do its job, and while the jets look awesome, the ground textures are poor and very contrasting. But that doesn't mean the game is bad, it's actually a good arcade flight video game that deservs even more than that cheap price. So, if you're pondering, get it.
