Description

Terror. Violence. Madness. Bedlam. A holiday paradise gone mad. A tropical island turns into total chaos after a mysterious zombie outbreak. Cut off from the rest of the world, the player’s only chance to survive is to fight to the death and find a way to escape from the island.

Dead Island combines first-person action with a heavy focus on melee combat, character development and customization of a vast array of weapons. All of these gameplay features are presented in a dark story inspired by classic zombie movies with a gritty and engrossing campaign that can be played with up to four players in co-op mode.

Set in an open world tropical island, hordes of different festering zombies await players around every corner while they embark on a variety of thrilling missions through the holiday resort. With firearms and ammunition being scarce the player must rely on utilizing found items as weapons for selfdefense and fight off zombie hordes in intense melee combat. A diverse range of items can be collected and will later serve to transform the player’s ordinary makeshift weapons into serious instruments of destruction.

In addition to satisfying even the most bloodthirsty action fan’s fantasy, Dead Island also features role-playing elements which allow the player to develop one of the game’s unique character classes according to their preferences, all the while learning new skills and fresh tactics during their journey through the perilous environments of the island. What’s more, anytime during a game up to four players can seamlessly join together and experience the intense combat and immersive story with cooperative gameplay.

With the all-new Chrome Engine 5 powering Dead Island, the game will use the latest instalment of Techland’s acclaimed proprietary game engine, allowing the player to experience the tropical island paradise in graphical splendour with diverse environments like lush forests and detailed city environments.

Great Game

Dead Island is one of the most refreshing gaming experiences I've had in a while. It's the much needed breath of life that both the zombie fad and the first person shooter genre needed to rise from stagnation.

First of all, the game has a great atmosphere. Techland managed to create not only a big, varied, and immersive world to explore at your leisure, but they also nailed the feeling of isolation perfectly. It will make you feel like you're alone against the horde of undead that lies before you, especially in single player.

The combat in Dead Island is very diverse and tons of fun. Slicing off limbs and bashing heads in has never been more satisfying. Even after hours of play, experimenting with the huge amount of melee weapons scattered throughout the island is incredibly fun. The guns are a different story altogether though. The feel rather clunky and are not quite as fun to use. When you first get your hands on a pistol, however, I guarantee, you'll feel amazingly powerful.
On top of that, there's a leveling system in which player can customize and improve their abilities after each increase in level. It's fairly standard stuff, but it adds a nice layer of variety to the game. The best thing about Dead Island's gameplay is the way it forces players to pace themselves and strategise rather than run and gun through the game. Resources are scarce, health does not regenerate, and weapons can break if not taken care of properly.

One of Dead Island's most glaring flaws is the lack of variety in both the story and side quests, they leave much to be desired. Most are simple point A to point B style fetch quests and they get old rather fast. Not long after you start the game, you'll begin to find yourself skipping the side quests altogether.

Not something I hope for but fun regardless.

My take of Dead Island prior to release is an ultimate survival game where the player only goal is to outlive the zombies. Think Fallout 3 with less story, harder enemies, and a lot of improvise weapon. This dream fell flat by the time I played this for the first time. Yet I'm not even remotely disappointed as I having a blast playing with some friends.

Disregard the story and any attempt done by the game to immerse you into game world as it only detract you from the part of the game that truly fun, which is mindlessly whacking away zombies and tear them apart with silly improvised weaponry (The story part wasn't any good anyway).

Recommend this for anyone, but don't set your expectation too high.

Very fun zombie killer.

Dead Island is a highly unique zombie killing, survival game. Instead of surviving hordes of zombies like most games of this genre, Dead Island is mission based and has a tinge of RPG elements through skill upgrade trees.

The gameplay is extremely fun and challenging and you get to customize your weapons. There is rarely a dull moment in this game. There are a good amount of zombies everywhere and you always have to choose whether you want to fight or run. If you fight, your weapon degrades and requires repairs and you will face the risk of dying which penalizes you by deducting your money. But if you fight, you may get more and better loot and also earn XP to upgrade your weapon.

Graphics are as true to a jungle setting as possible for modern video game technology. The missions are never boring. Even the side quests are interesting. This game took me around 40 hours to beat the missions and most of the side quests.

The bad: Limited type of zombies and you don't really need a partner to complete the game. I completed the entire game alone.

A great game, but....

Do not get me wrong, this is a great game and is a must for any zombie killer fan. You are alone on an island over run with walkers until you stumble across civilization which in turn can help you but first you have to help them, a boat load of missions is to be done while collection enough money and objects to make yourself some weapons to fight against the dead and wonder why all this is happening. The storyline is amazing, but you need to have a clear head as it does get a little bit twisted towards the middle and as for the environment it is huge with lots of buildings and places to hide yourself. However these are all the good points and of course there are bad ones too, this game is buggy which really is a shame and is a let down to the game, this being said I really got used to the bugs as I got immersed into the game play. I can not see this game lasting long though, it is amazing but once you have completed it you go straight back to the beginning to start it again either with a new character or continue with your progressed one. Enjoy it and love it as this is one of the best zombie games to buy and is a must!

Cool game

This is pretty cool game: great looking graphics, cool gameplay, fun chatter, free world, co-op. Although that cool gameplay contains a lot of bugs: for example, you can get stuck on the stairs. But despite all these bugs, it's still fun - you can level up, change skills, use different weapons, even trow them! I think that Dead Island is definitely better than L4D2 in co-op, although the games are a bit different.

Dead Island also contains some other annoying things, like the chat - the voices are emotionless. Although this game be masked by the cool facts, like the ability to make weapons, upgrade them, repair them... It's basically like Fallout, just with zombies!

If not the bugs, I would give this game 95%, although at the moment I can give only 85. Still a great game, especially with these amazing GMG deals!
