Dark Souls is the new action role-playing game from the developers who brought you Demon’s Souls, FromSoftware. Dark Souls will have many familiar features: A dark fantasy universe, tense dungeon crawling, fearsome enemy encounters and unique online interactions. Dark Souls is a spiritual successor to Demon’s, not a sequel. Prepare for a new, despair-inducing world, with a vast, fully-explorable horizon and vertically-oriented landforms. Prepare for a new, mysterious story, centered around the the world of Lodran, but most of all, prepare to die. You will face countless murderous traps, countless darkly grotesque mobs and several gargantuan, supremely powerful demons and dragons bosses. You must learn from death to persist through this unforgiving world. And you aren’t alone. Dark Souls allows the spirits of other players to show up in your world, so you can learn from their deaths and they can learn from yours. You can also summon players into your world to co-op adventure, or invade other's worlds to PVP battle. New to Dark Souls are Bonfires, which serve as check points as you fight your way through this epic adventure. While rested at Bonfires, your health and magic replenish but at a cost, all mobs respawn. Beware: There is no place in Dark Souls that is truly safe. With days of game play and an even more punishing difficulty level, Dark Souls will be the most deeply challenging game you play this year. Can you live through a million deaths and earn your legacy?
Extremely Deep, Dark & Difficult – Unforgiving in its punishment, yet rewarding for the determined – learn to strategize freely and conquer seemingly impossible challenges.
Fully Seamless World – Explore a completely integrated world of dark fantasy where dungeons and areas are seamlessly intertwined, with great height.
Mastery Earns Progression – Contains 60 hours of gameplay, with nearly 100 uniquely despair-inducing monsters & an incredibly nuanced RPG systems including: weaponry, armor, miracles, faith, and more. Player success depends on their eventual mastery of how and when to use the magic spells, choice of armor, the number of weapons, the types of weapons, and the moves attached to the weapons.
Network Play – Players may cross paths with one another, invading each other for PVP battles, or to play co-op and take on giant boss encounters as a team.
Flexible Character Development & Role Play – As the player progresses, they must carefully choose which of their character’s abilities to enhance as this will determine their progression style.
Community – See other real players and empathize with their journey, learn from seeing how others died, find and leave messages for your fellow players; helping them or leading them into death.
Symbolic of Life & Hope – The Bonfire is an important feature in Dark Souls for many reasons. Though in gameplay it serves as a health and magic recovery and a progression check point, it also happens to be the one place in the dark world where players can find a fleeting moment of warmth and calm.
Hard but great!sherridannia | Jan. 25, 2016 | See all sherridannia's reviews »
This game is very very hard. Which should be expected of this sort of game. Also the humanity system isn't every really explained to well. Once you get past those things this game is super fun. Expect to face zombies and undead knights as well as a plethora of big bosses while slowly working your way through a dark beautiful massive world with secrets hidden everywhere. Kill enemies and acquire souls to purchase upgrades and levels. Also if you are near the Firelink shrine and keep running into skeletons you are going the wrong way... that one took me too long to find out...

Because you're going to die, and a lot. This game will test your patience, every single enemy you fight you'll have to deal with it like a mini boss, and a boss like final boss, the graphics are ok even with the bad pc port, the gameplay is a bit broken but nothing that ruins the game, the only bad thing about this game in my opinion is the complexity to create a character, in short, Dark souls is an excellent game, it must be played with a lot of calm and tranquility, any stress will make deaths more frequently.

This is by far one of my favorite games of all time. If you want a game with a rich combat system, this is it. There are so many great things to say about this game which many people have already discussed. So I will try and bring another great reason to buy this game, REPLAYABILITY! I have sunk hundreds of hours into this game. And I still continue to play it. Meeting people and finding out they love Souls games is such a great thing. You have a new friend to jolly co-op they game with!
Phenomenal game that requires patiencethilp | Sept. 11, 2015 | See all thilp's reviews »
When I first played dark souls, I couldn't get past the first boss and quit after a few hours, thinking that the game was unnecessarily frustrating and too difficult for no reason. More than a year later, I came back and finally beat the first boss, and the sense of accomplishment from that was incredible. Dark Souls is the most rewarding gaming experience I've ever had. Encountering a tough enemy and learning their moves and adapting your gear and strategy until you overcome them makes you feel incredible, it's almost an addiction you develop early on and feed until the end of the game. Online play is laggy and flawed, but despite that a decent community has developed and it's still enjoyable at times. All in all it's a 60 hour journey that makes you feel like giving up at times and makes you feel like a god at others, a type of emotional investment rarely seen in games as an adult, and at the prices the game sells for in 2015 it's a phenomenal buy.

Pain death retry win repeat. You have to practice to overcome this hard, hard game but over time you learn to overcome and get better and better at the game and the feeling of accomplishment is real. The controls are finely tuned and the game looks great. the new game plus system is worth it as the game changes and gets significantly harder each time. The PvP system is great but can be punishing (this fits right in with the game). I would say that if you have a desire to play something different than the easy casual games that have become common place as of late this is the game for you.
