Description

Be prepared to relive the first nightmare in Resident Evil 0, a remastered version of the popular prequel to the original Resident Evil game. This remastered version takes the fear-inducing atmosphere from the original 2002 release and transforms it with stunning new HD visuals, improved sound, widescreen support and an optional modernized control system and more. It’s the best way to experience the story of what really happened before the iconic mansion incident that was the catalyst for the entire Resident Evil saga.

The story of Resident Evil 0 takes players back to 1998. Reports have been mounting about unusual murders on the outskirts of Raccoon City. The city’s Special Forces division, S.T.A.R.S., sends their Bravo Team - including rookie cop member Rebecca Chambers - to investigate. On route, the team’s helicopter suffers engine trouble and is forced to make a crash landing, where they find an overturned prisoner transport vehicle. Splitting up to search the area, Rebecca discovers the Ecliptic Express, a train stopped dead on the tracks. Inside, she meets death row convict and ex-Navy lieutenant Billy Coen. Throughout the game, you will take control of both Rebecca and Billy, at times switching between both characters in order to proceed. Learning the advantages of each character is the key to solving puzzles and surviving the nightmares that lie ahead.

Resident Evil 0 is older than it looks. Its development started in 1999 when Capcom was releasing as much RE games as possible to entertain the fans while their developpers were making Resident Evil Code Veronica for the Sega Dreamcast. At first, RE0 was a Nintendo 64 game that was supposed to be released right after Resident Evil 3. Then, the project was completly revamped for the Gamecube. And here we are today with Resident Evil 0 HD Remaster, the HD Version of this Gamecube game. Resident Evil 0 is a prequel. Taking place a day before the first game, this story is about Rebecca Chambers, rookie member of STARS Bravo team. Her team just arrived in the Raccoon Forest of the Arklay Mountains area. The cops are here to find the remaining members of a hiking group who was apparently attacked by animals (a corpse was found in the river, closer to the city). Rebecca and her partners don't find any trace of the group but instead discover the dead bodies of some soldiers. Apparently, they were escorting a prisoner named Billy Coen... After being separated from her team, Rebecca must join forces with Billy Coen in order to survive the monsters that roam in the forest and to understand what is going on in the Arklay Mountains. Resident Evil 0 offers a Resident Evil experience by the book. There is no big surprise here except that you control two characters instead of only one. You must then manage two inventory and use Billy and Rebecca effectivly to progress. Also, you can't use the traditionnal items boxes. This time, you'll have to put items on the ground. It's not a bad thing but we can clearly sense that it was a new thing for Capcom's developpers. New players might find it tedious because it increases the game's backtracking (Especially if you have put a certain item really far away from where you are...). There are also new challenging monsters like the Eliminators or the "Leech Zombies". Unfortunatly, the bosses are not as good. They are even a bit boring compared to the creatured we have encountered in previous games. This Remaster version is a lot better than the first game's own Remaster. This time the backgrounds have been fairly improved making the visuals more homogeneous and pretty. Also, a pretty funny Wesker mode has been added. There are also a few new costumed but they are sold as DLCs. Resident Evil 0 was a very good game and this is definitly the best version of it.
