Story:
Shadow Warrior tells the offbeat tale of Zilla Enterprise’s corporate shogun Lo Wang as he is ordered to acquire a legendary blade of limitless power by his deceitful employer. Betrayed and left for dead, Lo Wang learns of the blade’s connection to ancient gods from another realm preparing to push our world to the brink of destruction. Now the reluctant hero must become legend through a masterful combination of gun, blade, magic and wit to uncover the truth behind the demonic invasion and banish evil back into the darkness.

Lo Wang quotes, fortune cookies and lots of demons dropped dead
borobobo | Oct. 28, 2015 | See all borobobo's reviews »This is a remake of the original Shadow Warrior in 1997 and having not played the previous one I can only say that this one rocks! You are Lo Wang a paid hitman using guns, shotguns, rifles,SMGs and of course a katana. That's what makes this game different from the other fps games out there. You wield a freaking katana and hack and slash your way to the top. You are trying to collect 3 swords which are combined to one that has the ability to kill the Ancients (rulers of the shadow realm). You are being helped-manipulated by another Ancient demon because he wants to reclaim his memory and in the end you become friends with him and also avenge his death by his Ancient brother. It has also some rpg elements like upgrading your weapons, upgrading stats and skills which help you slice or shoot faster and deal more damage. Many demons dropped dead and many bosses will kneel before your katana's blade. I played this game in insane mode and although it took me a while to finish it I really-really enjoyed every moment of it. Rest in Pepperonis you ugly demons!! Overall 100/100 and looking forward to Shadow Warrior 2 which is going to be more open world, co-op and more rpg elements.

One of the Best FPS Games I Have Played
Knapp816 | Sept. 1, 2015 | See all Knapp816's reviews »Shadow Warrior was something I purchased on a whim and only because it was on sale and it had good reviews. Wow, do I regret not getting this game sooner. This really is one the greatest first person shooters I have played. It is a balls to the wall (or in this case, Wang to the wall) kind of game. You play as Lo Wang on a mission to collect three sacred swords in an effort to stop the demonic invasion. The story is a little bare but there is enough meat to get you to the end. You have an invisible companion named Hoji who helps you through the entirety of the game and also provides constant, amusing dialogue. Hoji isn't the only one talking though, Wang often busts out hilarious one liners while he's cutting his enemies in two or launching rockets at a hulking beast. Together, the two have some very enjoyable conversations. While the gunplay itself can leave a little to be desired, the katana more than makes up for this. Chopping and slashing your way through Japan has to be one the most enjoyable things I've done in a first person shooter. I have yet to beat the game but there have plenty of moments where I just need to sit down the controller and take a break. At times the game can get a bit repetitious and beyond the story there isn't really anything to do besides a survival mode on three maps but that really only lasts so long. Bottom line? Get this game but wait for sale, and I only say that because of the lack of content past the story (although the story itself is quite long).

A hack and slash shooter with magic and lots of Wang
Valoo321 | Aug. 19, 2015 | See all Valoo321's reviews »Shadow Warrior is a remake/re-imagining of a classic game by the same name. I've never played the original, so I'm only basing this review off of this game alone. And boy is it fun. You get a variety of different weapons, but you always have your trusty katana if you ever run out of ammo. This was definitely my go-to weapon, as I enjoyed the first person hacking and slashing. The controls were great, although the gunplay left a little bit to be desired (hence my affinity for the sword). You play as Lo Wang, fighting demons as you travel through different areas of a city, searching for some kind of mythic sword. There are jokes and puns aplenty, including on the main character's name (naturally). The commentary didn't get too stale, even though he continues to say the relatively same wrote lines during combat. The demons get a little bit repetitive, however, as you only have about three or four that you end fighting continuously - the difficulty increases as they add more demons or add armor to the demons, however. As you level up you get the chance to upgrade your weapons, buy some ammo, get new passive or active skills, and learn new magic. I didn't like how the magic controls were handled. They could only be used by a combination of key presses and clicks (for example W-W Right Click activated an ability). Overall, I'd recommend it if you're looking for a campy, punny shooter with some fun swordplay.

Yo, It's Lo Wang and He Is AWESOME
Jiggy_Snipe | Aug. 1, 2015 | See all Jiggy_Snipe's reviews »Shadow Warrior has got two important things going for it: 1, it's great FPS with guns and sword, and 2, more importantly, it is such an entertaining game. I mean, the writing is great, funny, and keeps you involved. Lo Wang is one of my favorite characters. He's witty, dirty, and just all around cool guy. Back to gameplay though, the only complaint I can throw out is that it can get somewhat repetitive (honestly a lot of games do), but with the writing it doesn't really matter because you'll be constantly laughing.

The Wang may be Lo, but the fun is definitely high.
MadDemon64 | July 3, 2015 | See all MadDemon64's reviews »Shadow Warrior is made by the people who made Hard Reset. And it shows. And it is awesome. In Shadow Warrior, you get access to a lot of weapons and supernatural powers, and you will need them to kill the hordes of demons that attack you. Of course, you also get a katana, which if used properly can replace all your other weapons. But half the fun of the game is seeing just how ridiculous your weapons become, and yet they never feel overpowered due to the enemies you face. Unlike most other FPS games, you play as a very vocal character, constantly making jokes, quips, and one liners that are for the most part funny in one way or another. And even if you don’t find them funny, they are said in a way that still gives you a good idea of your characters personality, which is a cut above the personality of most FPS protagonists these days. Shadow Warrior is a game that will make you come for the dick jokes but stay for the satisfying gunplay and surprisingly good story (for an FPS that is).
