Better but shorter.

Max Payne 2 is the sequel of the first installment. It's based on the same character, who continues his detective work. The game brings better graphics and another amazing story. Unfortunately for me, I found the story to be too short, leaving a lot of potential unused. One thing that's really interesting about the gameplay is that the AI adapts to your skill. That means that if the game sees you failing/dying too many times in the same action, the game automatically reduces the difficulty of the enemies and also makes more painkillers available at different locations. Of course it works the other way around. For me, this is a great balancing idea. A must-play for the fans of the first game! Don't miss it!

The Ballad of Mona Sax

What can I say about Max Payne 2? It's Max Payne but better. Really better. The graphics are better. The story is better. Well the gameplay is not better. However, there was no need to improve it since the original Max Payne was so great gameplay-wise. The story is a direct sequel to the event of the first game. Max is still in the police force and, while he was investigating gunshots in a warehouse he met Mona Sax once again. The same woman that "died" at the end of the original game. And she's accused of murder, too! So now Max tries his best to understand how Mona survived and what really happened in this case... A investigation that will bring a new light to the event of Max Payne 1... Max Payne 2 is a great game. It's almost like the two games were the sides of a single coin. If you want to try this franchise, you should get both of them.

Max is back! Now with even more pain than before!

So fast-forward, after the success of Max Payne, the sequel shortly arrived. It is indeed an upgrade from the first title but still more of the same as well. Upgraded visuals, even more of a linear game design but at the same time it retains the classic 'Bullet-Time' mechanic that has so benefited the Max Payne games so far and continues to be the shinning feature of the series. Max Payne 2 is a lot more narrative driven than the first one, as Max tries to moves on with his Life and in the process finds a renewed hope in life when he encounters someone back from the past and so on. Its a thrilling story that is exciting and heart touching. It also retains the same method of story-telling through Internal Monologues, such as in the 1st game. Visually, the game looks somewhat better than the first one, more graphical settings to play with plus like the previous entry, Max Payne 2 has its own set of Mod tools through which i had a ton of fun trying to make different levels and so can other players make the game their own playground! Remedy Entertainment makes a brilliant comeback when it comes to the soundtrack for Max Payne 2, still as heartening to listen to as the original Max Payne Soundtrack, thanks to Poets Of The Fall. So in the end, i would like to say that its a true successor to Max Payne 1, continuing what makes the series tick while making some nice additions such as the sudden turn of events in Max's life, more nicer visuals, etc. I would recommend Max Payne 2 just like i did the last one. This series offers an exhilarating experience that shouldn't be missed at any cost whatsoever!

Better, but not perfect

The Max Payne games are like gems in the gaming community (except MP 3, what was, shall I say, "not so well recieved"), almost everybody that played with one of them found something fetching: the story, the game mechanics, the characters or simply the fast paced shooting parts. While Max Payne 1 was a totally new gaming experience, people knew what will be in the second game, still when it came out everybody was astonished by the sheer epicness it represented. The story was a bit dull here and there, but Max's new love interest was a refreshing element in the game. The film noir-y feeling that the first MP lacked was pumped into the second installment of the series, and it did good for the story. Also, the new dream segments make sense in The Fall of Max Payne, not like in the first game. The only problem was that the gameplay is a bit boring after a time, but if you get over that, the game will repay you with a great big plot twist, or an epic shooutout. All in all: Max Payne II: The Fall of Max Payne is a must buy game, and you will love it to bits, even after all of these years.

Just amazing.

Max Payne 2 is the sequel to the first Max Payne game (One of the best PC games of it's time). Max Payne 2 is truly an improvment over the first one.Max is back as the titular character and so are the voices. This time he is working for the NYPD and investigating murders where Mona Sax (read fatal attraction) makes an appearence and all hell breaks loose which isn't surprising for our guy Max, after all he has a knack for finding trouble. The iconic bullet time is back with elan, it is done with much more panache and feels tight as ever. The gameplay is just top notch, gunfights feel solid and and nails the definite thumping sound for each weapon. Max Payne 2 is the successor to one of the best PC games of it's decade and it improves on it.You cant ask for much more, grab 1 and 2 instead of 3 for the real Max Payne experience.
