With a huge community, expansive personal story, and constantly growing world, coupled with a developer that really knows what theyre doing, GW2 is thriving a few years after release, and with the release of the HoT expansion, the community should be experiencing quite an influx of new players! Whether a newbie or an old pro, now has never been a better time to delve back into the world of Tyria.

GW2 had some pretty big boots to fill! The original Guild Wars game was an epic gaming experience, that even today is difficult to rival. Perhaps the greatness of the original title(despite the blandness of it's expansion packs) built my hopes up. Maybe built them up too much! Guild Wars 2 was not as epic as I anticipated. The game looks and sounds gorgeous, it has random events, and huge sprawling cities! It's got a long and deep story, and is an overall good game! If this had been anything BUT a sequel to one of the best RPGs released, then I would rave about this game! However, as a sequel? It just leaves you wanting. If you have never played Guild Wars, then grab this and be amazed! If you are a long time fan of the series, you should still pick this up! No, it won't be as grand as the original, but it will still be enjoyable.

I have never played the original Guild Wars so I had a fresh perspective on this when I first got it. What attracted me was the subscription free price. You would think because of this, the developers stopped updates after initial launch but that is everything but the truth. There are so many updates since launch, I lost count. The updates are what you look forward to and what keeps me coming back. I don't have as much time to game as I would like and Guild Wars 2 requires just the right amount of time for me to fill my need to game. Here is what typically happens. Once you max out on stats and is content with the armor skin you have, you stop playing for a bit. You then hear about the next major update and all the new things they are adding (there is usually a bunch of new things such as new map areas, items, mini-games, etc) and then you get back right into it. So for the one time fee, it is well worth the thousands of hours I have sinked into it.
Love it. Buy it. play it. You won't regret it.alef | March 29, 2015 | See all alef's reviews »
I waited a really long time to purchase Guild Wars 2. I think like seven years or something, it is one of the best purchases video game wise I have made. Don't expect it to be a Guild Wars 1 or anything. At first I was really upset with that, but I kept playing and it was so worth it. The game is really n00b friendly, the community is also really great and friendly for the most part. Don't plays this game like you would play another MMO where the goal is to level as quick as possible, nah with Guild Wars 2 you have to level and experience it. Hitting each level is rewarding, at times it might feel a little bit 'grindy' but stick with it and you won't regret it. There are multiple ways to hit level 80 as well, which is great. Honestly I really recommend it for veterans of MMO's and new players to MMO's. Buy this and you won't regret it. Overall it's a really fun and enjoyable game. I bought it a year ago, and I don't think I've really played others games since then, that's how engaging and exciting the game is.

There are many MMOs out there. Some require you to buy the game, buy all the necessary expansions, and buy a subscription. Others are free to play but have broken cash shops. Guild Wars 2 is one of those rare games that only requires you to buy the game and nothing more. Guild Wars 2 is a hybrid action/tab-target MMO where you can attack via tab targeting but you will only hit your target if you aim your attacks properly. What also sets Guild Wars 2 apart from other MMOs is that no one class has a set playstyle. You can be a tanking sorcerer or a healing warrior, depending on what equipment and skills you use. The story is sadly the weakpoint of the game. It is not very engaging, and at times can seem recycled and boring. However, that is a problem with the story that was released with the game. Ever since the “living world” has been implemented the quality of the story has somewhat improved. And that is another thing to praise about the game: the “living story”. It provides free content updates without the need to buy expansions. However, this comes at the price of progression: people who are at max level with full exotic/legendary gear by the time they get to the living story will not get any new gear, just new stories. Guild Wars 2 might have some problems, but it is still a very solid product.
