Where to begin? This game did everything right. The flow of the fights, the variety of tasks, even the collectibles. The story was not the greatest it could have been, but it was still above-average, and the addition of so many classic character voices, from Kevin Conroy as Batman, to Mark Hamill as the Joker, or even the iconic Arleen Sorkin as Harley Quinn added a very nostalgic sense to the entire game, which was very endearing. And the landscapes and architecture just fit so well with everything that makes Batman what it is in the DC comics universe, that left me stunned. The fighting system was very smooth, with a variety of techniques so that no fight ever had to feel stale or systematic, but some still proved to be quite the challenge, making for a thrilling experience. The story didn't progress with just the same game mechanic repeated again and again either, there was a number of different things required, including plenty of a sometimes overlooked aspect of Batman, his stealth prowess. I was a HUGE fan of the predator sections, singling out thug after thug, slowly chipping away at them until the one last panicked henchman remained, waiting for the axe to fall. And the collectibles! Not simply another treasure hunt with no map which you have to systematically break the map down into grids to search high and low, a lot of the potential collectibles actually required some thought in order to crack the Riddler's clues. Ingenious way to break the monotony of a grid search, kudos to Rocksteady for that little gem. All in all, I'd highly recommend it if you haven't played it before. Hell, I'd recommend it even if you have played it before. Get it again. Go on, you know you want to.
Really, REALLY good gameZefellus | Oct. 2, 2015 | See all Zefellus's reviews »
Being it the first of the series, I was expecting a cool game, but somewhat buggy. Surprise: It's a really well done game! I've played the whole story mode and haven't found one single bug. The side missions are really fun (I had a hard time solving The Riddler puzzles) and the gameplay is great. The most impressive thing about this game is the atmosphere: Rocksteady was successful in mix the seriousness of the Dark Knight movies with the comics universe; we have a serious and focused Batman, but also the famous gallery of wacky villains like the Joker, Poison Ivy, Scarecrow and Bane. If you're a Batman fan, or simply a gamer, that's a must-play.

Batman Arkham Asylum is one of the best game that I have ever played (and I played A LOT). This game captures the concept of "Be the Batman" in a really perfect way. I really felt like controlling the REAL Batman when I played this game. Pros: + GREAT story. + GREAT gameplay. + GREAT fighting system. Free Flow Combat is the best fighting system that I've ever seen. + GREAT array of gadgets, allowing you to takedown enemies with your own style. + GREAT sound. + GREAT atmosphere. + GREAT graphics, with quite a low system requirement. + GREAT characters and voice acting, the characters really felt like they are coming right out of the comics. Cons: - Camera angles when fighting the Scarecrow sometimes a bit annoying, but still acceptable. Overall: 9.8/100 BE THE BATMAN!

What's most astounding about Batman: Arkham Asylum is that it came out of nowhere. The game does justice to the concept of Batman, especially in terms of how the game plays, using that to craft solid core mechanics around stealth and brawling. The game rewards stealth, yet keeps up the pace so it never gets boring. Between the level design and the available gadgets available, playing through the game is always personalised. Hiding on gargoyles and picking off guards one by one is entertaining and satisfying gameplay. The game does have its downsides, like the Scarecrow hallucination missions and the killer croc platform jumping sequence, but those thankfully don't detract too much from the core of stealth and brawling. The gradual unfolding of the story also worked in the game's favour, fleshing out characters through psychological examination tapes. Everything about the game is thoroughly Batman, which is all you can really ask for.

Batman has always been one of my favorite superheros, and this game is an amazing addition to the Batman universe. It's got a lot of the main villains from the Batman world and incorporates them really well into the game. The story is really awesome for a superhero game too. Plus the boss fights all feel unique and fun to play. I also really like that it's an open world game and feel it adds to the fun that you can just go and explore the asylum if you want to. All in all, this is probably my favorite superhero game series around.
