Hexodius is a pretty interesting mix of genres, with dungeon crawler, shooter and hack-and-slash being the most obvious things that come to mind. I wouldn't put it on par with the best games in their respective genres, but as a blend of genres it works surprisingly well. Although it won't keep you busy for too long, the authors took care of the fact that you shouldn't get bored too fast and allowed for some customization of the game. So for shorter sessions of gaming or as a break between more demanding games, Hexodius may be the right choice. If you have a little spare money you may try it, as chances are you will enjoy at least some aspects of the game due to its interesting nature of a genre-mash-up.
