The game is about collecting Ion particles from the stage so you can shot them into asteroids, after destroying part of them a wave of enemies is generated to stop you from further destruction. There are few tokens like drones and mines to help you destroy asteroids and enemies, but you need to be careful as those tokes also use particles as their fire power.
The worst flaw of this game is definitely its length. You can pass the whole campaign in about 1-3h depending how many retries it takes you. So unless you plan to get few harder to get achievements you will drop this game rather quickly after passing the campaign.
To conclude Ion Assault is great to pass few hours, but after those few hours it tends to get boring.

Basically this game is about collecting ions, then shooting them at asteroids or enemies. Beautiful graphics and colors, the whole game is an eye candy. The music is awesome too! It's much more better than I expected. Simple, yet VERY addictive! Buy it! It's worth it!

Althought there a lot of shooting games out there, Ion Assault innovate bringing an element of gameplay I haven't seen in any other game: there are a lot of "ions" in the scenario, and in order to shoot your targets you must collect them. This ions, beyond just affecting the gameplay gives the game a very beautifull aspect, of particles flying and ricocheting around the scenario. Unfortunately the game can become pretty boring after some time, since your only goal is to destroy some asteroids in each stage, while defending yourself from enemies. But, if you want a fun shooting game to play in you free time, Ion Assault can be a very good option

Ion assault is a fun little space shooter, there are quite a few top-down shooters like this out there, so if you played any you already know exactly what to expect gameplay wise. Basically your main objective is to shoot down asteroids while enemies ships are contantly attacking you. One problem that i had was that there is no real indication whether you hurt an enemy ship or you were ineffective, a life bar or some kind of "my ship is being destoyed" animation would've been nice. Other than that the graphics are great, especially for an indie project. On the other hand what i really didn't like about the game was the music. It's mostly techno, some might like it, it sounded cheap to me and i found it quite annoying. Still if you're looking for some mindlessly fun shooting, Ion Assault is a great choice.

For the most part Ion Assault is a great game, though not without its flaws. My major problem with the game is that it gets a little repetitive. When you’re not slaying the giant bosses your sole goal is to survive long enough to destroy all the asteroids scattered about the arena. It would’ve been nice to see a new element get introduced into the gameplay like defending an important object or something along those lines because destroying asteroids for sixteen levels gets a little tedious. If you’re looking for an energetic shmup or just an entertaining game to invest a couple hours into you can’t go wrong with Ion Assault, but if you want something with a little more depth I suggest you look elsewhere.
