VERY dark games

PLAYS | Oct. 26, 2013 | See all PLAYS's reviews »

i was curious about The Darkness 2 but it was Spec Ops: The Line that interested me. spoiler free.. you don't enjoy these games. these are games that are so dark it is fantastic. i wish more games were like this and more developers were brave enough to make them. i personally think The Darkness 2 is a better game. the theme, the story, even the art style impresses me. with both these games you see an option in the menu "downloadable content" but there isn't any, for either. Spec Ops locks at 60fps i think? but runs perfectly well at 1440p max settings. The Darkness 2 at 1400p runs around 140fps so yea absolutely fantastic. plus you can play it either on Windows or Mac via Steam. i've not said a single thing about what the games are about, which i've done that purposely. these are games for GROWN UPS and tbh i really want more of them. if you're an adult gamer i would recommend these titles without doubt.

Amazing bundle

While good games on their own merits, bundling both games together for a discounted price is a stroke of genius. Both games cater to different audiences and provide an amazing counterplay both in terms of gameplay as well as aesthetics.

The Darkness is based off the popular Top Cow comic series about a supernatural force of evil inhabiting the body of a mob boss. Sadly, the first game was never released for the PC, but the sequel has a handly 'last time on the Darkness' cinematic that is completely worth watching. The gameplay is solid, with entertaining mechanics and enjoyable gun battles complementing the cel shaded style.

Spec Ops, on the other hand, eschews fantasy and instead opts to tell a gritty and realistic story about three men on a rescue mission in Dubai. The gameplay, a generic third person shooter with cover mechanics, is passable but what really shines is the story. The dialogue, the choices, all of it is completely believable and leaves the player questioning their decisions the entire time. And make no mistake, each decision HAS consequences.

It should be said though, that the multiplayer portion of each game is a little sparse, seeing how long the games have been out and the appeal of each has dried up. So if you're a multiplayer fan, I wouldn't really recommend either game. But as a single player fan, I would recommend both games without hesitation.

Great Deal for 2 Great Games

coolings | Oct. 4, 2013 | See all coolings's reviews »

These two games are extremely good Spec ops the line had twists and turns and by the end of it you really feel for the guys like they went through hell and you where along for the ride. The guns in the game felt good and it didnt feel like a typical gun game if you try to be rambo and run out and shoot guys you will die very fast so it is challanging.

Darkness 2 is a great game also with a more arcade feel to the guns and plot twists that will leave you going what just happened! If you are like me I am sure you will be eating hearts galore and useing the darkness to take care of your enemies in very gruesome and down right funny ways. Also dont forget your little goblin pal he is a bundle of laughs.

All in all this package is a win win deal well worth the few quid.

Great Deal, throw your money into the screen

This bundle containing both Spec Ops: The Line and The Darkness 2, is quite possibly one of the better deals I have seen in a long time. Spec Ops: The Line is a third person shooter that defies the understanding of the genre by replacing the happy trigger feel of modern shooters to a rather grim and horrifying feeling and will quite possibly make you emotionally and physically sick from what the game makes you do. The darkness 2 is a first person shooter with a quad-wielding mechanic that has you hold a primary weapon and/or dual wielding secondaries, and also uses your 2 "arms" on your back to act as weapons, throw objects, people and casts certain abilities. The thing about The Darkness 2 is that even though compared to the first game, is much more of a linear experience rather than an open one, it is able to better tell the story and actually made me connect with each character more. In conclusion, both games are definitely worth your money just by themselves, and having them both bundled together and picking them up is a no-brainer.

Awesome bundle!

hellinperson | May 26, 2013 | See all hellinperson's reviews »

This bundle contains Spec Ops: The Line and The Darkness 2, games that are underrated (for me, at least). Spec Ops: The Line is a Third Person Shooter that has one of the best campaigns in the last years. It has an awesome narrative, theme and it's really violent. The character development is awesome and it makes you feel bad for them. It has a multiplayer mode, but it's not really good. But these kind of games are for the campaign. The Darkness 2 is a FPS Horror game that has a little bit of RPG elements. It's a secuel to 2007's The Darkness. It's a graphic novel and its art style is awesome, using cel-shaded graphics. This game more lineal that it's predecessor, but it's more violent. The narrative is awesome, I think that it's on par with Bioshock. And that's saying too much.
