Description

Captain your own space ship and roam the galaxy in 3D in this tactical space simulator with tons of RPG depth ! Space has never looked so inviting - but images can betray...

It has been two years since the end of the second Gemini war, and the situation in the wartorn system is further from resolution than ever before. The collection of freedom fighters named Gemini League is now reduced to a small group, with no power or influence, after losing their leaders. The Empire meanwhile, has used the re-opened Starpoint to occupy the once renegade Gemini sector - and beyond.

A multitude of Imperial warship fleets and mammoth motherships have crushed every trace of opposition. The situation was looking bleak, when they suddenly halted their armada and re-shifted their focus on fortifying Starpoint with staggering numbers. Rumours soon spread that they were afraid of something coming after them through the T-gate, from what was supposed to be the core of the Empire. What are they running from that makes even the mighty Empire tremble?

Starpoint Gemini 2 will take players on a breath taking journey, with dark secrets and unimaginable twists that will finally unveil the incredible truth...

Awesome little gem!

I'm speechless. And I was speechless a year ago when I first joined this game in Early Access. Words cannot describe the pure awesomeness of the community that evolved around this game, of the developers that were working so closely with players, or the game itself that is amazing. And I'm writing this about a week before full release so I didn't even play main story yet. Pure perfection.

And what is more important, this game gave people faith in Early Access games. The process of involvement in the game development for players and the invaluable input developers are getting from the community is something spectacular. And that's what we have here. A true gem in the space genre, that is already compared to much bigger productions like X: Rebirth, Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen. Not to mention that many people said Starpoint Gemini 2 is first true spiritual successor of Freelancer which is a bold statement, but in fact, true.

If you haven't bought this game already, that either means you don't like space games, or that the game didn't had visibility it deserved. So buy it, try it and join our big community on official forums.

This game was made by a small dev team that, honestly, made a miracle. And it will only get better with time. Free of charge DLCs, free expansion already planned...

Buckle up and enjoy the ride, captain.

I really really wanted to like this game. It had great visuals, a great premise, nice customisation options, modding, an interesting sounding campaign..but then...I actually played the version 1.0 and...

It's not actually that fun. It goes through the motions of things that one should do to make a fun space RPG....but I never really felt engaged. It doesn't garner my interest as it is so cut and dry. The combat is a bit boring, and so far I haven't felt particularly threatened or in a situation I couldn't easily escape if it was getting a bit too hot to handle. In combat you also have some passive abilities, but you can press 1,2,3 or 4 to activate...boring abilities, and you have consumable items that can buff you for a short time if things are getting a bit more pressing. This is ever so routine and much the same as any RPG and yet Torchlight as an RPG is charming and is full of 'soul' and 'character'.

Starpoint Gemini 2 on the other hand doesn't have any of that, and the campaign...ugh...I wish they had paid for better actors. I don't know who they are and don't care to look them up, but they convey the story along with about as much enthusiasm as those 5 year olds reading their scripts directly from the pages in the 'Avatar: The last airbender' movie. Is it worth the price of admission? Eh...maybe, if you're a first time gamer and want to spend your money on a pretty looking space RPG for a few hours of 'fun' looking at the pretty visual and the pew pew laser death - then yeah maybe drop some cash on it.

Meanwhile I remember the days of Freelancer past when the storyline was engaging, voice actors conveyed the situation, it was FUN and engaging - you could tell the creators behind it had a passion! In summary Starpoint Gemini 2 will not give you numerous hours of entertainment, but it is pretty to look at for a little while until you can find something else to scratch that space RPG itch. I reward this game 50% for all its technical excellence, but I award it no further points for failing to provide fun and excitement.

Offline EVE - almost

Nowhere near as complicated as the X3 series, don't know why previous reviewer complained about the complexity. The UI is big and large and reeks of indie dev, but you'll understand the function of each over time. The in-game tutorial is just a slideshow pop-up so nothing to expect in this department.

The graphics and audio themselves are quite good for a space game, and the expected control over the settings is there. You have full control over your ship and several camera control methods. You'll need to switch through them with TAB and C as you first start out to get the feel for each one.

The game can be pretty difficult later on if you are slow to upgrade, as the enemies level with you. There's fast travel but it's expensive, far too much. It can take you a long time to earn credits I would rather autopilot to each new destination. Really wish dev would rebalance it.

There are only 4-5 different kind of missions that spawn randomly and get bland, fast (kill X of these, capture instead of kill, scan this anom, repair this structure). New ships are incredibly expensive so there's not much progression, just saving up for a slightly less crappy ship. My survivability didn't noticeably go up from a 90k > $1 million ship. Friendly AI is always around and seems to steal kills from you. You get salvage and experience all the same, but it makes capture missions hard to do! The main story is as bland as you'd expect. I'm currently stuck because I can't kill 3 instakill turrets with my $1 mil ship, and it's a long haul to a 15m ship!

Great game but too complicating

Freako | Jan. 5, 2014 | See all Freako's reviews »

Starpoint Gemini 2 is a great game but to be honest it is too complicating.

I feel that the game is trying too hard to be like good titles in the market like EVE online.

There are some points where i liked about Starpoint Gemini 2 is the factions and T-gates. T-GATES makes travelling easier in such an open world. There are many diverse factions that have things that you need be it resources. They can trade with you or you can even plunder them. Depends on the relationship you want to be in.

Gameplay wise like i said it's hard to learn but trust me give it 2-3 hours to sink in and you will be liking what this game has to offer. Also for starters this game will mesmerise you with it's graphics. Don't let the gameplay pull you down.
