TAKEDOWN: Red Sabre is a tactical shooter that is perfect for the player who chooses to engage in deliberate and methodical gameplay as opposed to gamers who want to run in with guns blazing.

In TAKEDOWN: Red Sabre gamers experience close-quarters battles as a member of the elite Red Sabre team. Each scenario is designed to emulate the tactics employed by SWAT teams and SOF units in taking down small numbers of dangerous adversaries. Non-linear environments allow for multiple routes, tactics and added replayability.

The game is in development by Serellan, a team of veteran developers who have worked on titles in the Ghost Recon, Halo, SOCOM, SWAT and F.E.A.R. franchises. The team is led by Christian Allen, the former creative director of the Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon franchise.

Key Features:

  • Fight Smart in Deadly, Close Quarters Combat – Players must think and move tactically, stay alert, watch, listen and choose wisely while setting up their squad for the perfect shot.

  • Tackle Engagements That Are Different Every Time – Nonlinear maps allow for multiple tactics and approaches to both attack and defense. Gamers must choose their gear to best execute strategy.

  • Out Think The Enemy – Gamers need to work closely and communicate well with their team to not only attack the enemy but to coordinate to secure multiple objectives.

Buggy, uninspired.

It's a dreary afternoon in Canberra, Australia, and I have nothing to play. I have an idle $2 remaining in my Steam wallet, and on impulse, I buy a game I notice is 90% off; the game is Takedown : Red Sabre. I download the game and finally press the play button. I navigate the menus, and select the Biolab mission from the Singleplayer menu. I wait intently through the loading screen, feeling excitement in my fingertips. I'm in game! My character is hefting an assault rifle and a pistol, both deadly weapons in capable hands. I walk down the stairs, and no enemies are in sight. Despite this, my character falls on the ground, dead. In a room that is empty, except for myself. 3 minutes in Takedown : Red Sabre. A game with great potential, reduced to a freakishly buggy and uninspired shooter. 4 / 10

A FPS with simulator traits

PrecisionUnknow | Nov. 19, 2013 | See all PrecisionUnknow's reviews »

First off this game is basically like a simulator and is very realistic feeling. So this isn't for the casual player nor the player who isn't into these types of games, and I feel that this is more realistic in terms of bullet damage than even ARMA.

So for those who have an itch for a game that is tense, realistic, and is like a spiritual successor to SWAT (the tactical shooters from Sierra in the 90s), then this is for you. It is very challenging, so expect wall hugging and slowly advancing, whilst commanding your small squad of international soldiers.

Finally its a must buy for those looking for a new type of shooter and quite to the point, cheap for what feels like a triple A title.

great game

This game is absolutely mind blowing as it changes the basic, boring military shooter and turns it into a very fun, but difficult and challenging shooter. The game is based on older SWAT games from the 20th century and games such as the Tom Clancy series of shooters. In this game if you get shot, you are dead instantly. This creates some of the most tense experiences in gaming I have ever had and it makes completing a level so much more rewarding and fun, however it can create some very frustrating time if you are used to more run and gun games such as Call Of Duty. But the game is absolutely amazing if you like planning and careful shooting.

Not for everyone but..

Matthew_Lumie | Oct. 1, 2013 | See all Matthew_Lumie's reviews »

I think this has potential to be the best FPS this year... If they fix the various bugs that currently dilute the game for many players. It has realistically modeled weapons (generally speaking, which apparently have appropriate recoil, firing rate, range and accuracy. I also enjoy the gameplay & visuals BUT do not expect a strategic shooter out of this, at best it's tactical, and the background of 'Red Sabre' (i.e. your team) is not thoroughly expanded upon.

Having said that I enjoy playing Takedown a lot & can't wait to get deeper into the online experience! I should mention here though that I have died from friendly fire. Anyways, enjoy! :-)

Very buggy at release

Tomtekopf | Sept. 21, 2013 | See all Tomtekopf's reviews »

This game has a ton of bugs on release and the serverbrowser is horrible. I would suggest waiting at least one or two months before buying this game. The game has the potential to be really nice and when you're actually playing with friends and everything works okay it's a really tense and exiting game.

But like I said, wait a while for them to fix the bugs. When the bugs are fixed add another 10 points to my review score.
