Sega's giant marketing ploy included touting a feature called 'blast processing'. While the existence of it is debatable, this game made you think it was real. It is a fast paced platformer with tight controls and catchy music. The graphics were innovative for the time. No one had seen anything like it except in arcades. It was a big step up from Sonic 1. This is one of the best Sonic game to date.

Bringing new elements, such as the spin dash, the co-op mode, the super Sonic mode, and all that stuff made grow the franchise in a single blow, this game is by far one of the best Sonic games made.

Sonic 2 is one of the best games in the sonic franchise. It has even more beatiful graphics than the original, and not only that, its the first game that introduces tails, your partner. Bosses are more difficult, you have minigames and an awesome soundtrack. You will not regret.

The original sonic was pretty good, though it lacked some small details that would later show up. Sonic 2 added these. Most notably, it added a spin dash that made it easier to gain speed at a moment's notice. A few other small details it changed or added were new special stages in place of the pseudo-marble madness of the original (which tend to be referenced in many, many other titles as the base special stage to this day), super sonic, and lowering the level numbers from 3 of each level to only 2. The levels also on the whole feel much more well thought out than in the previous title, creating an overall better experience. If sonic 1 is a necessary play due to what it started, sonic 2 is a necessary play because of what it added.
