BorderZone

Description

BorderZone is a role-playing action game with a complex non-linear storyline. The player can choose his profession (mage, thief or soldier), learn the necessary skills and spells, create a team of up to 5 dare-devils and embark on a trip full of danger and unexpected discoveries in the world of Terra filled with various creatures.

Terra came into existence at the moment when the old Earth passed away. Due to a global nuclear catastrophe many regions of the planet became unsuitable for living and most of the population was atomized. A new world was created - a world where magic and technology adjoin and people are not the only intelligent race.

After several millenniums the inhabitants of Terra are facing a new threat. Gods come down from heavens and start wreaking death and destruction on the planet. You are to enter a violent struggle and the fate of humanity depends on you.

A great little RPG

This is a seriously different take on what happens to the planet after the apocalypse. For once, it's not a land loaded with nutjobs on rusted-out jalopies chasing hapless wayfarers - it's a land of magical and technological possibilities, and where we humans are no longer the kings we once perceived ourselves to be. Adventuring with NPCs is fun, and highly recommended - it massively improves the story, and makes dying a lot less likely possibility.

The game looks quite good for a small title, and wandering around and exploring, both on your own and with a party, is always a nice experience. The characters are particularly well-detailed, and each one of them is easily recognizable from quite a distance. The sound is adequate, but for the most part falls fairly flat. Controls are good though, and ensure your adventures are always pleasant ones - none of that "what keys is it?!?!" stuff here.

Definitely recommend BorderZone - it's a refreshing take on the cluttered RPG genre, and manages to make the typical post-apocalyptic scene seem new again.

BorderZone

BorderZone is, to be completely honest, a decent enough game. Although running around in Terra and looking at all the badly designed places is a not great experience, the gameplay more than makes up for it, so you're left with an RPG that more or less delivers. You basically have to go around fighting people and creatures, learning spells and making a team that will accompany you on your adventures. Fun for a bit, but then you're left wondering if it was worth the money.
