One of the best Platformers I have played in a whilereginleifx | Dec. 7, 2014 | See all reginleifx's reviews »
I am not a fan of platformers, to be honest. When I got the game I was sure I would not like it at all. However, I was wrong. Giana Sisters' plot is not good, and it feels more like an excuse plot (pretty much like 8-bit era platformers), but the point where it shines is its gameplay. You play as Giana, a girl with two different personalities (Cute Giana and Punk Giana), both featuring a different skill, and the world looks different depending on which personality you're playing as at the moment. Switching personalities is something you will be constantly doing to solve puzzles, beat enemies, and I've even done it to see changes between both versions of the world's backgrounds. The game's soundtrack is great, tracks have a techno feel when you're playing as Cute Giana, and are metal-ish when playing as Punk Giana. If you're into challenging platformers with quite easy controls, this is a must have. However, I'd recommend getting it while it's on sale.

I never considered myself a platfomer fan, because I just never played them a lot. Mario was never my thing. But on PC one sees a lot of good platformers lately. Since Super Meat Boy to Limbo, the genre is really spawning some classic titles. And I have no reason to believe Giana Sisters is any less. The game is really addictive and polished. It keeps the formula simple, by giving you an interesting premise and works on that. You can change the whole world, between a pretty and fairy tale-ish one, and a grim and dark one. The thing is, your character also changes between worlds and it has different abilities. One is more aggressive and the other one is more passive. The game keeps this idea simple, so you don't have to have a lot of things on your mind. And it works wonderfully exactly for that. The game is fun, and keeps it simple. On the other regards, visual and music, the game is just amazing. Its music is really something else and it totally gets you on the mood. The same with the graphics. The whole world changing feature is helped by some awesome graphics. With a 2.5D style, the game looks beautiful, more than most platformers. So, with that said, if you're a fan of platformers, just go get this. And if you're not, then you might as well start.

Captivating graphics, sharp controls, inspiring mechanics, intriguing world, awesome music and sounds. Challenging levels. Not much can be expected from a platformer, but Giana Sisters goes ahead and exceeds them. A brilliant platformer and recommended for any fan of the genre.

This game is designed to make you feel like you are playing very pretty version of an old-school super nintendo side scrolling platformer. From collecting floating jewels that serve no purpose to jumping onto bad guys to kill them, it is old school gameplay completely. If that is what you like, then this will be a great game for you. But while I do enjoy some side scrollers such as The Cave and Trine 2, this game was very boring to me because it didn't present any new ideas or takes on anything. I felt like I had done all of this already back when I was a kid. Nothing struck me as clever. The game also barely has a story at all. Hopefully this review gives you an idea as to what you should expect from this game.
