Necronomicon is on the whole quite a nice adventure game, a nice diversion in between. There is a creepy atmosphere but the linear control for the game a boring: Some locations may only be visited if you have previously performed a particular action, and no other sequences are possible. One must be willing to solve riddles, however it is sometimes very tricky.
The scenes get more and more gloomy, as you explore vaults and eerie experimental laboratories (sometimes you moves completely in the dark). In addition, there are logical errors where links between some sequences are not explained. The ending is quite disappointing.
Still this is an interesting story and well developed atmospherically. I recommend this game for fans of mystery games who can appreciate the details in the creepy presentation and mysterious story.

Necronomicon is an adventure game inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft. The game begins in 1927 in Providence, Rhode Island (the birthplace of Lovecraft), where you play as William Stanton. The presentation is not great and the only resolution supported is 640x480. Some parts have really nice production, but others don't. The game has some prerendered graphics and they look quite nice for what they are. Necronomicon has quite a nice atmosphere and ambient sounds and that's awesome in this type of games. Gameplay is really linear, but I couldn't expect anything else. Its puzzles are quite frustrating and some of them don't make any sense! This game had potential, but it has really poor execution. A sequel could make things better.
A good Lovecraft adventureCavalieroscuro | July 1, 2013 | See all Cavalieroscuro's reviews »
Necronomicon is a very good adventure, full of suspence and tension. The graphics are, of course, outdated, but the game is very good, with logical puzzles and a very interesting story. If you loved Prisoner of Ice, Shadow of the Comet or other point and click adventures based on Lovecraft novels, give it a try.
