A deadly plague ravages your world. Your last hope: a legendary alien facility dug deep into the Feldspar Mountains...a massive Pit, built by the ancient Suul'ka. If 'The Pit' really exists, there might be something left. Something that will give your doctors a fighting chance at the cure.
Have you found the cure to the plague yet? Even if you have, there’s more to The Pit than you at first thought, with lots of new areas to explore, items to find… and new dangers! The Pit: MindGames gives you even more old-school dungeon-diving in the Sword of the Stars sci-fi universe, letting your test your skill against The Pit using the mysterious and gifted Solforce Psion officer or the Tarkan Ranger – the first playable alien character!

This game happens to be an introduction to the roguelike genre for me and I have had a good time with the game soo far. The game reminds me of classic RPG's like Deus Ex with the skill system that allows you to build the classes your way and it allows for experimenting interesting skill combinations. The game looks nice and for those people looking for nostalgia should be satisfied with the 32 bit pixel art used by the game. Sound design is a bit lacking though and I usually find myself playing my own music most of the time and muting the game. This game is also a time sink. This can be good if you want to fully explore the game and see what it has to offer but if you are impatient then it can be harder to recommend because crafting recipes are hard to come by and not as obvious to figure out without a wiki.
One of the best rogue likes for starters!McDoenerKing | Sept. 7, 2013 | See all McDoenerKing's reviews »
It is my first roguelike and I heavily enjoyed it. Its gameplay is very streamlined. At the end of every run you do not think "awww I had bad luck" but "okay this and that wasn't a good choice at that time to do". Short you will learn with every round you play something new and advance and advance further in the game. You won't feel like you do in many other roguelikes that the random number generator of the game messed you up. The game itself gives you the choice of three different classes. Each class plays heavily different from the other ones. The pace in which you get levels are well done and keep you hooked. There are no new mechanics to be found here, but it takes all the known ones and polish them up quite a notch. The battle system is also very straightforward and doesn't need much of a tutorial. You will have to do smart decisions in combat about which weapon to use and if an enemy is worth wasting your ammunition. The DLC provides more content in form of levels, weapons, items, enemies and psyonic powers. To play with the new psyonic powers is just immensly fun. Summary: This is a great roguelike for starters but also for veterans!
