In the distant future the X universe faces a period of profound and irrevocable change. Old alliances have fallen and new enemies have arisen as the balance of power shifts. While the universe lurches towards an uncertain future, countless adventures await. Enter Ren Otani, a young adventurer and his unlikely female ally. Their ship is the “Pride of Albion,” an old, battered ship with a glorious past. Two people stand alone against the galaxy, playing a key part in the events to come. The fate of the universe rests in your hands...

X Rebirth represents a spectacular new beginning for the X series, offering both loyal fans and newcomers a vast, vivid and extremely detailed universe to explore. Varied gameplay elements such as action-packed space combat, detailed trading mechanics and high-speed space exploration with fast travel allow players to experience a truly unique space saga that will keep you hooked for dozens of hours. X Rebirth features a whole new user experience - it is easier than ever to start, but remains as deep as fans expect.

A truly living universe awaits; be a pirate, work for the military, or work for yourself. Trade with a variety of factions and increase your influence by building stations to earn money. Cause trouble in the economy by destroying freight ships or reduce the amount of protection elsewhere by blowing up destroyers.

TRADE -A fully-simulated economy means your actions really do matter. Travel the space highways to find profit in gigantic space cities, swarming with ships and drones.

  • Every ship you see has a task. Stop a freighter from reaching its destination and its cargo will not arrive, causing prices to rise. FIGHT - From small scale skirmishes to epic fleet encounters, battles in the X Universe know no limits. Choose to fight for the military, work for the police or be a lawless pirate, or if you prefer just fight when you need to defend yourself - it's up to you.

  • Take the action right into massive structures. Target turrets and shield generators to weaken your enemy, damage engines and jump drives to prevent ships from escaping, or destroy production facilities to cripple an economy.

BUILD - Create your own empire! From trading stations to large factories, from farms to hightech military complexes, everything can be built by you. Build any number of different production facilities for trade and profit or to strengthen your military presence and dominate your enemies.

  • Extend and upgrade your stations to make them operate more efficiently, with every element visible in glorious animated detail. Harvest your own resources to keep your empire running smoothly.

THINK - A rich, detailed history and a deep complex plot await you, but you are free to decide when and where to take part. Explore the universe at your own pace - choose your path and create your own destiny.

  • Get up-close and personal with aliens and humans alike. Land on stations, meet people, then accept missions from them or hire them as crew members for your ships.

Do all of the above and more in the X Universe, the biggest sandbox this side of the galaxy.

Favourite space sandbox

What the previous "X" games did well, Rebirth does even better. And it makes the space look so beautiful and hypnotic so you can spend long hours just travelling and watching it. The X series can be considered a space sandbox game. It can be a trading game, a RPG, a space combat game - you shape your own gameplay and your own genre with the way you play it. For me it's the direct successor of the old Elite game, and with every incarnation it becomes better and better. With excellent space combat model you may be willing to focus more on combat than on trading or exploration, but there's nothing to stop you changing your direction during the game and choosing a different style. That's the perfect thing about X Rebirth - you can make it your own game.

Not that good

Mikagee | Nov. 20, 2013 | See all Mikagee's reviews »

The game initially released with a lot of bugs and performance issues which drastically affected the overall game at release. Though the game has great detail in ships, stations and interiors. The animations of people talking or doing actions are poorly done and the speech's are repetitive. Another bad thing is the mini games within the game, they get annoying quickly and its the only way to continue sometimes. Overall Egosoft will release patches for the bugs, but they surely released a unfinished product. To sum it up, the graphics and detail are good but the game play and plot are disappointing.
