This is an arcade Mario Kart-style racing game by Codemasters with the official F1 license (the game features 2012 drivers and constructors). While the driving mechanics is fun, it should be said that fortune plays a huge role in your final race results. The power-ups are double-edged swords, they can help you to move up places, but your opponents use them too, so be prepared to get caught up in the last corner of the race. Maybe it's not worth the full price, but if it's on sale, don't be afraid to buy it, because it can be real fun (but only if you have a controller).

Let's see, i love this type of racing games, back from the days of mario kart and crash team racing, and the newer sonic allstar racing. This game doesn't bring anything new to the table other than the car damage, wich is a bit broken imo, your car gets wrecked after beeign hit once and you need to struggle yourself to a pit stop so you can keep going. Then it also has some really stupid and frustrating powerups, like the torpedo and the teleport, you can be winning the whole race, you are about to get to the finish line, and a random racer that was on any position magically appears infront of you, and makes you come up in 2nd place. I love the art style, and if you get 3 more friends you will have an awesome time, but carreer mode can be really frustrating taking into account that the AI sometimes seems to be a bit unfair. Overall it's a game that i wouldn't get or recommend at full price, but if you get it on a nice sale like this one, and you have someone to play it with (prefferably on the same room than you) it's totally worth if you are looking to get some casual fun
Mario Kart for PC!EddyGaming | May 25, 2013 | See all EddyGaming's reviews »
Alright, i bought it and wanted a Mario Kart for PC... This is what I got: 21/25 Gameplay 14/15 Replayability 5/10 Fairness 6/10 Controls 9/10 Graphics 8/10 Sound 8/20 Multiplayer 71/100 And here we go: In F1 Race Stars you get a game similar to Mario Kart. Same Power-Ups, same Gameplay. There is not much to say about these two points. But why does it just have 5 points in Fairness? The Damage System! If you get hit, you get damaged, if you get damaged twice you are half as fast as the others. And that until you reach the next Repair Boxes. And to drive into these you loose even MORE time! Unfortunately you can only turn off the Damage playing with friends. This leads to the next point: Multiplayer. There is no working multiplayer in this game! Noone plays it, becuase the Match Making is bugged...But if your friends play it, you get a nice experience: you can choose everything- Damage, Power Ups, Special Things, Length... And then the game makes very very much fun! Unfortunately this game had no racing wheel support. Just controller support. But a good thing to say about it is that the Controls are pretty easy (WASD+Shift+Space+Alt) and that you can play this game in Co-Op mode with a splitscreen and on 1 computer. But you have to have a controller for each person you wanna play together with, just one person can use the keyboard. Because of the easy Controls, the Replayability is very good. Also this game has very many game modes, a campain with several cups on several roads and a quick race mode. I took away 1 point because of the eventual Rage Quits because of the (Un)Fairness. The Graphic is pretty good, the maps look cool and the special effects are well detailed. Everything is in a pretty comic style and there is no violent. You can play it with your whole family (if you turn off the damage...I am already hearing your kids cry...) and your friends. The only thing I have to fault is the sometimes angular graphics. The sound is nice, too, but it had a bit potential upwards. TL; DR: This game is a Mario Kart for PC with an unfair Single Player Damage and no Online Community. Play with your friends or Offline and have fun! Your friends will easily understand the controls, tested it myself :)
Very enjoyable, and in a similar style to Mario Kart!alphalegion | April 12, 2013 | See all alphalegion's reviews »
I went into this game thinking I was going to hate it... The art style annoyed me and it looks like the game is designed with 5 year olds in mind. And yes, it’s not exactly a hardcore racing game, but it certainly shouldn’t be underestimated, especially for its nostalgia. The bottom line is, this game is fun. Very fun. Just don’t go into the game expecting anything incredible and you’re going to have a lot of fun with it. It is best played with a controller, as you can clearly see it’s a console port, but that doesn’t detract from the fun. Overall, this game is well worth getting! I wouldn’t really recommend it at its full £25/$35 price tag, but for £15 or less, you can’t go wrong! Very enjoyable, and in a similar style to the modern Mario Kart games.
