For those who think the base Fallout 3 game and the other DLCs are too easy, The Pitt will make them think twice, maybe three times. It is unlike any other area known to Fallout 3 fans. The explorable area is completely urban, ruled by the Pitt Raiders who won't shed any mercy. No matter how tough you are, the raiders always take you as a slave, and you have to earn your right to be top dog. Your favorite weapons, equipment, etc are taken away and until you prove yourself you can survive, you stay as a slave. Later on, similar to TeS IV: Oblivion, you must participate in an arena and after winning, the real juicy part of the DLC can finally be tasted. Your items are returned and after having a private chat with the ruler of the Pitt, their fate is decided by you. Why is that? Even with new weaponry, like a silenced and scoped assault rifle and an automated saw in your hands, the mutated beings, the Trogs, won't go away and the threat of being infected in the industrial soaked landscape won't even be on a dying man's wish. I give this DLC an A- for having a solid gameplay basis but the short and underdeveloped storyline prevented me from giving out a higher score.

The Pitt DLC for Fallout 3 is set in glorious, run-downed Pittsburgh. For the most part it is pretty fun. But after you do all the quests and find all the goodies, there is very little to keep you coming back to the Steel City. The missions in this DLC are good though and have some interesting characters. But the non-replayability of the DLC really hinders it from being truly great (like Point Lookout). Overall, the Pitt is good purchase. Just make sure you aren't spending too much.

Okay, the second DLC fared much better. It feels more like Fallout, with actual story segments and choices to be made. Sure, there's some silly bits, like the metal ingots, but overall it works out. And the combat heavy end feels earned rather than the "oh, here's Alaska and look! Chinese soldiers!" of the prior DLC. The Pitt is recommended, and showed promise for the remaining DLC releases to come.

The Pitt was only the second DLC for Fallout and yet it captured the desperation of a post-nuclear world that was somewhat lacking in intensity in the base game. You are sent undercover as a slave to go and retrieve an item from The Pitt – basically the remains of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, which looks to be some sort of cavernous wasteland where you can’t even see the sky, partly because of all the smog generated from the factories in the vicinity. In terms of atmosphere, The Pitt is fantastic. You start off with no armour, no weapons, and no friends -- only a hidden .38 pistol, if you opt for it. And every step you take you have to make sure that you are prepared for battle because one wrong move and you will be marked for death in this unforgiving metal hell. There are some new weapons and items and some new characters as well as enemies to meet. All in all this was the most well-realised DLC for Fallout 3.

In the Pitt, witness how the industrialized rebirth of Pittsburgh dredges up old world class conflicts in the harsh brutal wasteland. While the main quest line can be completed in short order, getting all the goodies can take some time and the story is one of the game's better written campaigns. Things are going to get ugly. You can only choose which side of the ugly you're going to be on. The setting is well-done. The massive molten metal spewing foundry confers that sense of the old industrial revolution back before anyone had any idea what safety standards meant. The only thing keeping roiling labor unrest contained is an oppressive police state. The only pressure-release valve: thunderdome arena combat. The art-style is right on the money. Even small decisions like switching the ambient color scheme from green-grey to that harsh orange-black really works well here. If you're looking for perk items, the Pitt has it's share. For example, the Perferotar is great for sneaking and the mauler is just brutish. Perhaps even more useful is access to the Ammo Press. If you accumulate lots of unused ammo types, the ammo press allows you to convert them to your preferred caliber.
