A great pack and a nice polar opposite of Close Quarters

nightassassin1 | Sept. 11, 2013 | See all nightassassin1's reviews »

If you love using vehicles in Battlefield 3 and that is pretty much all that you use, this DLC is for you. The maps have large beautiful landscapes for you to destroy and riddle with your victims and enemy vehicles while safely sitting in your gunship or tank destroyer.

This is pretty much the exact oposite of the Close Quarters expansion pack in the sense that everything revolves around vehicles while Close Quarters revolved around infantry. If you hate vehicles or mainly play infantry then this DLC is not for you. If you are infantry you are most likely going to be taken out by an enemy vehicle in the next two minutes, so basically if you are not in a vehicle you are not going to do very well in this map unless you have someone supplying you with ammo and you are setting down a large amount of AT mines.

I liked this DLC to some extent as it tests your skills with vehicles in a pretty much vehicles only setting, however I am more of an infantry person and if there is any DLC where you should never play infantry, this is it. This pack was best when you really want to be in a vehicle and your team is always taking or wasting vehicles in normal conquest. A vehicle lover's fantasy.

Beautiful and sprawling maps

Unlike any of the other BF3 DLC, Armored Kill focuses on vast and open maps that harken back to the ones seen in earlier Battlefield games.

In Armored Kill, you receive 4 large maps: Bandar Desert, Armored Shield, Alborz Mountains, and Bandar Valley. In these maps, you'll find new vehicles such as the Tank Destroyer, mobile artillery trucks, the AC-130 Gunship, and ATVs. Furthermore, there is the new Tank Superiority mode and additional assignments.

With 64 players, these maps really display the beauty of all-out (virtual) warfare with massive explosions, destruction, and tracer rounds zipping through the sky. That feeling of running alongside vehicles and other foot soldiers during the initial push is especially spectacular on these maps with their exceptional vastness. And just wait until you look down when you're flying overhead in a jet or helicopter. Believe me when I say that these maps are beautiful and varied.

Because of the large map sizes, Armored Kill can provide more deliberate and tactical gameplay compared to what you'd get with the default maps and some of the other DLC. However, keep in mind that whatever problems you have with BF3 itself are still present with this DLC (e.g. lack of commander mode, small squad sizes, etc.). But if you like BF3 and just want a taste of what previous Battlefield games were like, this is the DLC for you.

Huge and Beautiful

This pack really mixed things up. Not only did DICE provide a pack that really contrasted its CQ pack but also provided BF3 players with an homage to BF games of the past.

For this pack you got 4 new maps a bunch of new vehicles. Most notably you got the tank destroyer, artillery, and AC130 Gunship! You also got 4 massive new maps with the map Bandar Desert being the largest. I thoroughly love playing on Bandar Desert and nothing beats the opening game rush as half a dozen tanks and two to three helis blaze out onto the map. Really feels like a full on war for supremacy. The artillery is awesome as well with long range and very effective attacks. The tank destroyers are wonderfully fast and Im not kidding when I say you NEED a vehicle to be effective on this map.

Aside from all that you also have the gunship. Its on rails but you get to control the weapons and man is that fun. You either control a big cannon or Havok style gunner that is good for rapidly delivering shells to a target.

Overall loved this pack.
