In the year 2062, humanity found itself on the brink of extinction. Tiberium, the mysterious, alien crystalline structure that infested Earth for decades and caused years of relentless conflict between the Global Defense Initiative (GDI) and the Brotherhood of Nod, was close to rendering the planet uninhabitable. In the midst of this crisis, Kane, Nod’s prophetic leader, emerged from seclusion to deliver GDI the message that he had developed a system that could control Tiberium and harness its power. But he could not build this “Tiberium Control Network” without GDI’s cooperation. Thus, the two opposing factions—GDI and Nod—found themselves in a desperate and unlikely alliance to stop Tiberium from extinguishing mankind.

Now, after 15 years, the network is nearly complete. Tiberium is under strict control and our revitalized planet is on the cusp of a new age of prosperity and progress. It is only now that the world’s citizens begin to seriously ponder why Kane chose to help, and what he will want in return. One of the most boring RTS games I've ever played. It's downright disgraceful that they could go from C&C3 (a pretty damn good game) to this piece of garbage. There's no base building, no resource management, the units are boring, and there's almost no strategy beyond pointing your units at the enemy. Seriously, how do you mess up Command and Conquer SO badly? On top of all that, they've made the unit designs look worse. The sleek and dangerous looking stealth tank from C&C3 is now a blocky, over-sized mess. As I've said, no more base building. Instead, you have one mobile command center that produces all of your units. Now if the units and their strategies were more sophisticated, this might have worked. But no. Instead all you have to do is produce a mix of units (which takes about 1 minute) and send them after the enemy. This is even more boring than it sounds. If you want a good RTS, look elsewhere.

A valiant effort from EA to be sure, Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight is a considerably better game than the previous instalment. It builds on the few things that made it good and improving them, such as the nice variety of units.

It also add innovative new features that do a huge service to the franchise, pushing it forward into the next generation of games.An example of this would be the Crawler; a hulking mobile base that lets you do what you want, where you want. It feels believable and it looks awesome, something this series prides itself on offering.

The addition of classes; a kind of General setting whereby you choose the type of commander you want to play is also a fresh new option allowing you to tailor your forces to better suit your style, rather than forcing you down the narrow bog-standard procedure of previous games.

Overall, a very solid effort. Whilst it can't quite hope to match the sheer brilliance of the Red Alert or Generals series, the Tiberian saga ends on good ground and is definitely worth a purchase.
