Men of War: Assault Squad
Description
Men of War: Assault Squad is the new title in the "Men of War" series. Assault Squad takes place across the globe during the height of World War II and features a completely new cooperative skirmish game mode with access to five different nations (Russia, Germany, USA, Commonwealth and- for the first time ever in the Men of War series- Japan) as well as increased realism and accessibility. The expansion pack will deliver fans and newcomers an intense new WW2 spectacle with almost limitless replayability.
Like previous games in the series, Men of War: Assault Squad includes the unique "direct control" feature which enables players to maneuver units using the directional keys, rather than pointing and clicking. PC Generals can get behind the controls of a tank to smash through obstacles, crush soldiers under its tracks and fire armor-piercing shells at enemy emplacements, or take control of individual soldiers as they fight.

Give it a try
85n3k | April 29, 2012 | See all 85n3k's reviews »This game takes us back to the period of the WW2 in a similar way to MOW, with its similar strong points and drawbacks. We can find some glitches along the single player and it can be difficult at times, but the variety of units, factions and gameplay modes make the game worth consideration. If having to choice between this game and the original, I would still choose this one.

Men of War Multiplayer
pharaoh13 | Jan. 18, 2012 | See all pharaoh13's reviews »I think the title of this review would make a better title for this game. First, let me say that i am a big fan of the Men of War series. This game features most of the nice details and graphics from the earlier games, and does add a lot of new items as well as the Japanese. However, what it doesn't have at all is any kind of campaign for playing on your own. All of the 16 games are essentially the same battle played out with different maps and different match-ups of Axis vs. Allies. Gets boring very quickly, plus it has turned into the type of real-time strategy I don't care for, namely cranking out new reinforcements as fast as you can and throwing them blindly at your enemies. Gone is all the story-driven appeal of the earlier titles, where you get to know the characters and try to keep them well equipped and focused on their goals. Everything is just cannon-fodder now. Anyway, I still give the game a decent score because if you play it multiplayer and like that sort of thing it is well done. Just not my style.

Multiplayer Focused Expansion
faraany3k | Sept. 2, 2011 | See all faraany3k's reviews »Men of War: Assault Squad is basically a stand alone MoW expansion pack with more focus on multiplayer this time around. Assault Squad support both online and Lan coop this time around. The biggest complaints about MoW was its lack of challenging AI. There were many ways were we can exploit the dumb AI. Men of War: Assault Squad has managed to address most of the issues quite well and now AI is much smarter and reacts to our actions in a more aggressive manner. Game is made on the same engine as the previous title so it is largely the same but still looks remarkably impressive. No. of playable factions or nations have also been increased this time around introducing the Japanese for the first time. All in all it is a huge improvement over the prequel and becomes even more challenging to play this time around, due to improved gameplay balances which provide a more even experience throughout. With a number of friends at your side, Men of War: Assault Squad provides hours and hours of fun and great replay value.

Wonderful multiplayer
wengart | July 28, 2011 | See all wengart's reviews »Although lacking a full campaign the addition of skirmish mode (a series of maps where you must capture AI control points and defend against their counter-attacks) makes up for it to a point. If you ever just want to play some Men of War without going online it's a good choice, but as a full campaign replacement it falls short.
Where Assault Squad shines is in multiplayer, a multitude of maps and new focus on infantry makes for a more balanced game, less dominated by big tanks, that rewards real-world tactics.
