One of the best games of all time for Strategy genre fans. The interface is not as streamlined as Civ 5, nor is the game play as intuitive as Civ 4, but it is the best of the Civ series to operate on an old computer. Bear in mind that the AI is not as sophisticated as most would like - the computer controlled opponents will gang up on you for no reason.

That's that. Classic strategy gem. Yes - gem. Iv'e owned this game almost since it was released in 2001. I won't lie saying that I've spent several hundred hours with this game. But nowdays it's just a curiosity. Cheap legend to add to your Steam library if you're a collector or a fan of the Civ series. Nonetheless - a gem, as, in my humble opinion, Civ III is one of the best games in the series.

Recently, I found my old Civ 3 disc and gave it a whirl. Sadly, it's showing its rust. Now, first of all, the 4X format that the series mastered is still alive and beating in this third iteration. If you enjoy domination victories then you can take grim satisfaction in its cold, ruthless gameplay.
However, I have little doubt that the fifth and latest Civilization is just an overall better game. It's not just that the UI is better, but Civ 5 takes the great core aspects of its predecessor and adds on new features that gives players far more freedom in choosing the direction and destiny of their civilization. Want to play small and focus on just a few high value cities? Now there are true incentives to do so. Prefer to acquire luxury goods through trade networks of allied city-states? Yep. Tired of your new towns in the modern era growing at the speed of molasses? Use trade caravans. Think having railroads on every square inch of territory is neither aesthetic or realistic? You betcha.
So while I hate down rating a classic that was once my favorite game, there is no question that the developers have really improved their offering since then.

So everyone's been talking about the Sid Meiers Civilization franchise but what is it exactly? This franchise is a perfect game for gamers that just love the idea to build your own version of an empire and maybe conquer the world. No other game can beat the realistic features and mechanics of this game and although this may be a little old, the gaming experience still remains so look no further and try it out!

Civilizations III is a brilliant game for the strategy addict. It's a classic that was able to live up to its predecessor titles. The depth of turn based gameplay and tons of choice will keep you coming back over and over again thus creating the 'just one more turn' mentality every Civ players know too well. Civilizations III has perfected the formula made by the previous games in the series which is why it's one of the best strategy game ever made.
