I chose this game while I was looking for something to act as a substitute for Final Fantasy Tactics. Granted, Silent Storm has a different approach to the genre. Nonetheless, I found it to be very satisfying.
This game takes a good amount of time. My first time through a scenario I usually get slaughtered. I usually save quite a few times so I can go back and find a smarter way to play through. A lot of trial and error in my case. It took me awhile to figure out the right way to approach this game.
Personally I find a good sniper character to be one of your most effective soldiers to use. The rifles are easier to become proficient with for most characters, and you can take out the enemy before he gets close enough to be accurate. Stay stocked up on grenades. You don't have to be quite so accurate with them. Be warned, they cause a lot of collateral damage to you and the surroundings. I was in a house and destroyed the floor we were all standing on. When in a building, don't forget that the enemy can be on the levels above and below you. Always save action points to reload your gun. Your weapon is useless if its empty.
Overall, I'm satisfied with this game. A bit different then I was expecting but in a good way. I really like the alternate history World War II setting. The combat feels satisfying and mostly balanced. If you do all the side encounters, this game could take a while.

Of course using turns and action points in a World War II in Silent Storm game. I have recently came back to this title and it ages well (graphic is clear, sounds ok), only point I would have against is that controls are not precise enough. But still it has all a fan of turn based strategies would ask for. For the glory!

Silent Storm is basically what you would get if you set XCOM during WWII without aliens and instead replaced them with sci-fi robotic suits and such. The game lets you play as either an agent of the Allied Forces or of the Axis, you can, after selecting what side you wish to play on, either select a premade character or make your own character with what country he or she is from as well as what speciality they have in the army, like a medic, engineer and so on and so forth, each speciality offer a different set of skills for the character that can turn the tide of a battle in your favor. There's also a slight RPG element to the game with that each and every character, not just your own, can level up and have different skills, like being able to get familiar more quickly with weapons but at the cost of losing that skill level when they switch over to a different type of weapon and many others. The game was also quite advanced for its time with the fact that the enviroment is quite destructible, most walls can be destroyed by explosives and thus nowhere is really safe for either you or the enemy. If you wanted to try something that is a little more different when it comes to WWII and turn-based strategy, then you should give Silent Storm Gold Edition a look.

Good choice if you looking for games that show you how to have with tactical games. Game is placed in WWII but have fiction elements like experimental equipment and story that's not history based. Characters improvement is combination of XP leveling and "grow by using" with interesting skills for every class. Game have great physic and destruction system that can add more spice for gameplay. Game have mixed difficulty level. Went to easy when you got silenced weapon, then panzers happen (not great way to make game interesing or making it challenging again). Compared to based game addon (yes, not DLC, just addon) named Sentinels is hard, require perfect plan&execution with surgical precision. Also – add economical aspect (aka money), more equipments better AI.

Silent Storm (and it's expansion) was made by Russian developer Nival Interactive (the same that later made HoMM V). It was many years ago and yet still this is a great tactical game with only one flaw - Panzerkleins, a fictional mobile armours (something like mechs, only smaller). This thing slightly damages game. Silent Storm is like Jagged Alliance with better graphics and World War II setting and with incredible environmental destruction system - this game makes all FPS of its time cover with shame and actually is better than current ones as well. Here it is no if you can destroy something, it is how strong punch I must deliver to destroy. Ever wanted in tactical game to shoot through floor and kill the guy above? Yeah, here you can. Every tactical game fan must buy this game.
