Since this game is finally playable, I recommend it, especially to those who have played the veteran X-series. Is it the next big step? Well, no. But it is a new game that is uniquely it's own and can finally be enjoyed instead of leaving you as to why this went into production. It performs well, runs smooth, and has a lot to offer. Go get it.....at a discounted price. Seriously, after all the waiting and fixes, i think still asking for $50 is a bit much.

If you've asked me a year ago I would have told you "By all means, avoid this game!". Today, 1 year after launch and after a long series of iterative patches that improved so many aspects of the game and bumped up performance by orders of magnitude, I can confidently say "Get this game!". Currently, the game is really enjoyable and has lots of offer.
If you're a veteran X-series fan, be warned that this is not X4. It's a new game with its own new formula even though it resembles X3 in many ways. Seeing the diligence of Egosoft at fixing bugs and introducing new features, I have to say I'm really excited about the future of this game.
