Our engineers in the Engine room have been busy updating both the Green Man Gaming site and community. Here is a quick rundown on what we have been working on.
Content Hubs
As we’ve mentioned in the past, the Green Man Gaming website is backed by a third party CMS solution. Now, with the introduction of variable designs for our content hubs, we are able to finally experiment with our CMS’ flexibility and power.
Until now, all of the content blocks have spanned the entire width of the shop and have a single title, with catalog items nested inside. This means that we have limited flexibility when laying out our pages. It has looked good so far, but we like the way things are shaping up…
We have integrated a range of bootsrap CSS classes with our CMS that will control the width of content blocks and a neat little algorithm to calculate the correct padding for different combinations. Then by hooking in to and overriding part of Episerver’s rendering engine, we can pair our content blocks with these classes. In addition, if a content block is not given a title, then on the fly, we will realign all of blocks on that row and it will form a visual group with the blocks above. Now our content team will have a horizontal and vertical control, allowing for a full range of different layouts.
That’s about it from the Engine Room, but check back in the New Year for more exciting updates from the team.
