Green Man Gaming and Playfire are looking to change the way gamers buy, play and interact with their games. We’re a small team of talented, passionate people who are dedicated to working hard, having fun and creating a great experience for gamers across the world.
Based in the heart of London, UK, Green Man Gaming has been proudly flying the UK gaming industry flag since its launch in May 2010.
Green Man Gaming has grown its catalogue to over 5,500 titles from over 400 official publishing partners and is still growing across over 190 territories, making it one of the world's fastest growing digital games retailers leading millions of gamers around the world into a new era of digital retail.
In July 2012, Green Man Gaming acquired Playfire, a huge and vibrant global social network for gamers. This innovative service not only allows consumers to automatically track their in-game achievements, trophies and gameplay across Steam, Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, but offers the chance to win Green Man Gaming credit with Playfire Rewards.
Winners of the Pureplay eCommerce Retailer of the Year Award (Oct 2014), Green Man Gaming was listed in SundayTimes Top 100 SME Export Track 2015, and is also a member of the Future Fifty; the 50 hottest high growth technology companies that the British Government is earmarking to IPO.
We’ve got an exciting journey ahead – come join us! You don’t need to be the most competitive gamer but it does help to have knowledge of gaming and the games industry.
Since humble beginnings in May 2010, GMG has always sought to be an important part of giving graduates their 'First Shot' in the games or e-commerce industries. We're passionate about the development of our staff and, ultimately, giving them the best possible chance of having a long and prosperous career. We have developed a great track record of fantastic candidates for the First Shot programme – where the vast majority of those who join as intern candidates are still with us in full time employment. If you shine brightly, there are many opportunities for promotion and progression within GMG.
Throughout the length of your time on First Shot you will be exposed to every department from the internal workings of how a successful Digital Distribution shop operates through to the development and management of our hugely popular social network Playfire.
In the Marketing Department we have really embraced the First Shot programme. We have created a number of internships, giving much-needed practical experience to add to the theory-based learning of marketing candidates. We are proud to have given our interns hands-on experience in online marketing campaigns, PPC advertising, social marketing, eCRM, PR, Community management and many more elements of the marketing mix - as well as giving them a flavour of the demands of the gaming industry. We were also quick to employ those interns on a full-time basis, who showed real willingness to learn and perform during their First Shot programme.
The Engineering department at GMG has grown from a single programmer to a team of dedicated engineers in order to keep up with a fast moving tech company that’s engaging gamers all over the world. If you’re the right candidate to spend time in our Engineering department during First Shot you’ll get the chance to demonstrate your ability to tackle some meaty technical challenges, ensuring excellent service to millions of our customers.
Operations is the engine room of a digital distribution business, dealing with such core areas as all website merchandising, the technical distribution of games to customers, customer service, and operational business development. Our staff span digital content experts, merchandisers, project managers, e-commerce experts and a skilled, results focused team of customer service representatives. Time spent in Operations will cover all these areas; giving you a deep understanding of the inner workings of a digital retail business.
The First Shot experience in finance will combine both a role in the fastest growing Social Commerce platform in the games industry, with a career path that will provide many opportunities in the future. Finance are involved in all aspects of our business, providing market forecasts, business analysis, and support to our departments, ensuring agencies and partners are paid promptly and reporting results to our external publishers all the way up to the Board and shareholders. Being part of a small team, you will have the opportunity to get involved in a broad range of tasks, due to the hands on nature of the department.
The Trading department is right at the heart of our business. During your time in the Trading team you will be mentored by some of the best Games buyers in the industry, learning retail principles and the financial impact of decisions made, gaining experience in every commercial aspect of the games market and get to speak to some of the biggest names in games publishing. All of this while gaining a wider understanding of customer needs and requirements.
The First Shot programme will see you undertake work in departments where your ability to manipulate some pretty big numbers is key, so a solid grounding in maths is a must.
