I bought this game because it has a battle system similar to the old Shining Force games on Genesis, which I really loved. This game didn't disappoint me personally. I expected an average game with a great battle system, and that's exactly what I got. The game is a bit blurry and dark, a problem that was mostly remedied in the sequel, but it doesn't ruin the experience. It just makes the game look uglier than it really is. There's a bunch of side quests to complete which add to the play time. It took me about a dozen hours to finish this game with 100% of the achievements. The story is sometimes funny and the characters are likable. It's tough to recommend this game because I know I'm in the minority and most people didn't love this game, but if you like the battle system in the old Shining Force games, this is easy to pick up and play as it's almost identical.
