Still one of the best stealth games and one of the best in the series, only topped by Chaos Theory. Simple, but effective, with really good level design, giving you a lot of choices about the approach. Soundtrack is amazing, graphics still look good (especially shadows, which still to this day are impressive), voice acting is also solid. While plot is nothing to write home about, the humour is really good. If you like stealth games, you should pick it up, all of the missions are great and memorable.
Splinter cell was a game I played much after it was released. In fact, they were working on the fourth title, by the time this game found it's way to my hard drive, but i became a fan of the series instantly. As the first game of the series, this one is not perfect, but only in hindsight. At the time, it was a very good game, and still is. It looks nice, and for once, it handles perfectly. The way you navigate is amazingly intuitive, and a great help in your battle, you need it though. Unlike most stealth games, sounding the alarm is not the end of the world, and while doing things quietly is the point, sometimes it's fun, to go in guns blazing, and with your spy gadgets you actually stand a chance against your much better armed foes...for a while. The voice work here is amazing. I loved the protagonist of the Thief series, but Garret can only win silver, when competing against Sam Fisher(voiced by Michael Ironside, he is amazing!). The way he talks to the captured enemies, or his team on the coms always cracks me up. And, this is just the beginning!
I bought this game when it originally came out and for me the graphics were stunning and state of the art at the time. This game was in competition with the Metal Gear Solid games as action stealth games and I much prefer the Splinter Cell series with the badass Sam Fisher character. When you hear him put on his night vision goggles and hear that classic sound of them lighting up, you know sh#t is about to go down. The campaign storyline is very well thought out and famous actor Michael Ironside gives a fantastic voice acting performance as Fisher. There are numerous weapons you can use, mainly silenced pistols and smgs for stealth reasons, and stealth tactics of climbing walls and ziplining. This is the game that started this popular franchise and there's no better place to buy this game at such a low price, definitely recommended for action stealth fans.
