When I think of Blood Omen 2: Legacy of Kain I have mixed feelings. I love this series but sadly Blood Omen 2 plays a little wonky because if the game mechanics. On the other hand, the story and the hero that is a weak form of Cain is the strong part of this game. As I said, the game is a bit wonky and it's a hit or miss when it comes to whether you like it or not. To be on a safe side, get it when it's on the sale.
This is one of my favorites of the LoK series hands down! I have played this game for years on console and it remains one of my favorite PS2 games out there. Soul Reaver 2 a close second. This game is an alternate universe caused by *SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER* the time paradox at the end of Legacy of Kain Defiance, I recommend that the games be played in this order Blood Omen 1, Soul Reaver, Soul Reaver 2, Defiance, Blood Omen 2. The story makes MUCH more sense that way. still an amazing game, and the graphics still hold up, though definitely dated by todays standards but still remains visually stunning and the gameplay isn't too bad or stiff either!
This is the first Legacy of Kain game I played all the way through. The gothic world looks and feels awesome, the citizens have personality, and the environment is brutal and foreboding. Kain is a very deep and interesting character, and his story, to me, is just as essential to the series as Raziel's. The combat is where this game shines to me. The Soul Reaver is a blast to dice fools up with, and Kain's powers, including immolation, mist form, and charm (mind control) are all fun to utilize in combat as well as stealth and puzzle solving situations. It's often forgotten about, but I believe Blood Omen 2 is as essential and enjoyable as any game in the series.
In spite of its name, Blood Omen 2 is not a direct sequel to Kain's original quest. Well yeah... Your goal is to conquer Nosgoth but no, it's not exacly a sequel. Blood Omen 2 shall be played after Soul Reaver 2 for Raziel time travels made this game's story possible. As Kain, you must fight your way through the great city of Meridian. Your objective is to defeat the Sarafan Lord, the last thing between you and Nosgoth throne. Not as good as the other games, Blood Omen 2 is still decent and fun and its mandatory to understand the whole saga's plot.
Third entry in the Legacy of Kain saga, Soul Reaver 2 offers a new quest for the player : to travel back in time to different era of Nosgoth bloody history. You will meet the most iconic characters of the Lore and fight the Sarafan order in another action/adventure game. Still puzzle-driven, your adventure might seem too close of the previous game. However, Soul Reaver 2 remains a great game and fascinating adventure.
