Do you think your character has an ugly beard? Trim it! (And get a haircut while you're at it...) Want to change the name of your kingdom to 'Awesomia'? Do it. Does your faithful vassal have a stupid dynasty name or shield? Customize them! The Customization Pack allows you to alter all of these things in-game. It has no effect on gameplay, but perhaps on your peace of mind.

his is a nifty little add-on to CK2 that allows players to set the initial stats and characteristics of their *initial* ruler. As another reviewer has already pointed out, you can only edit stats for your first ruler, not his or her heirs. There are also elements of game balance: adding positive characteristics ages your character. So if you start out with several advantages, your character begins the game in his or her 30s or 40s. This annoys you at first, but when you stop and think about it, what would be the fun in creating a Superman with all stats in the 30s? I recommend taking the Wounded trait. It's temporary, and makes your character younger. A minor criticism I have is that (like all too many other games like this) you can't create a truly dark-skinned character. Considering some rulers begin in Africa, this would add realism.
Crusader Kings II: Customization Pack DLC is a funny thing. Not a necessary thing for sure, but if you are the kind of player who enjoys customizing their characters, giving them that special personal touch - this pack may be good for you. The diversity it offers is nearly unlimited, and for the low price it may be a worthy addition to your Crusader Kings II collection, although it's more of a curiosity than crucial expansion. It allows to modify haircuts of your characters, choose names for their children and even name bastard dynasties and duchies that you create. Can you play without this DLC? Sure, but why not add this little personal flair to the game, which is already pretty strong on its role-playing aspect.
If you want to role-play in this game, you can customize your hair and beard. You also can rename children born to all your descendants, which is a nice feature. But you also can also rename other units. This doesn't add any necessary gameplay. If you really like this game get it, otherwise wait.
