Crusader Kings II: Hymns to the Old Gods contains four new songs, totaling almost 12 minutes, created by the talented composer Andreas Waldetoft.
These grand songs run while playing as Norse characters to enhance the experience and the atmosphere of the game. Andreas Waldetoft has been working on Paradox Development Studio games since Hearts of Iron II and Europa Universalis III.
We Are Norse:
The Norse were feared warriors who raided, explored and settled large areas of Europe, Asia and the North Atlantic islands. This song pays homage to their strength and resolve
The City of Birka:
On the island Björkö in lake mälaren, the city of Birka was one of the earliest urban settlements in Scandinavia, being founded in the middle of the 8th century. This song was written to honor one of the most important trade centers of the Viking age
From the harsh winters comes the strength of the Norse. There is also great beauty in the vast wilderness of Scandinavia. This tune seeks to convey the serene beauty and spirit of the Nordic lands
The son of Odin and the protector of mankind. With his hammer Mjölnir, he was one of the most popular gods in Norse mythology. This powerful hymn was written as a tribute to the God of Thunder and Lightning
Crusader Kings II is required to play this DLC.

A pack that adds additional tracks to CK2's soundtrack, this music will be played when you are playing as Norse cultures. Good for your immersion and for fans of a more diverse soundtrack. The four included tracks are all excellent and will likely be enjoyed by fans of Andreas Waldetoft's other work. This DLC will only add new music to the game, there are no gameplay changes included in this.
If you have played as a Christian ruler many times and now you are getting ready to play as a pagan, this music can really put you in the mood for something else. If you have played this game enough, the music becomes very natural and common place, so a good music pack can shake things up nicely.
In any game, especially one that you're almost certainly going to spend hundreds of hours playing, immersion is important. If you're playing as a Viking ruler, you want to feel like a Viking. Like you've got a great big bushy beard and a skull full of ale. And other Viking things. This music DLC makes you feel like a true Viking.
Since this is a song DLC, it doesnt bring any new content to the game. BUT, if you enjoy the music in CK2 and want even more immersion, I would suggest you get it, especially when it's on 75% sale. It's really great to be able to play different nations and have music in the background that actually suits them.
Like all of the other song packs for Crusader Kings 2 many people would consider it completely unnecessary and for the most part useless, which I could agree with. On the other hand though it completes the immersion of playing as a viking warrior. On the other hand you could always just mute the games volume and just turn on your own music or you could just change the games sound files. So if you can live without the music then I think it would be better to pass this downloadable content up. Overall because of the little need for the dlc, and the great immersion factor it brings if you buy it then I would give this DLC a sixty two out of one hundred.
