Alien: Isolation

Alien Isolation is the game that any fan of the films or previous Alien games needs to play. It certainly makes you feel vulnerable and can be quiet challenging once the Alien shows up and begins to stalk you through out the station. It may be a little too long for some as its around 20 hours but it is definitely worth a play through. Hopefully we'll get a sequel some time in the future.

Aliens and video games have been a mixed bag for quite awhile. To be Honest, there hasn't been a decent one since the original AvP, that is until now. Isolation takes place somewhere in between Alien and its sequel Aliens. However, you play Amanda, Ripley's daughter who catches a ride with a science team to Sevastopol to track down a voice recording of her mother. Sevastopol is being closed, but you have a few hangers on that don't want to leave. Which is probably a bad idea. The atmosphere of the stations and ships are recreated so precisely it makes you feel as if you're playing the 1st movie. Its a true labor of love, and it shows. The sounds of the computers turning on, the hiss of steam coming from pipes, the ear piercing silence of space, the chime of the motion trackers, its all perfect. Right down to the cat and mouse. The graphics are solid, especially with the right GPU. The sound is near perfect. Play it in a dark room with the sound up, or with headphones on. Watch Alien, play Isolation, then watch Aliens. Its pretty much seamless.

The ultimate Alien game. If you are a fan of the series created by Ridley Scott (and specially that first film made by him) you are going to love the attention the developers paid to every single detail. It wasn't hard to make a better game than Colonial Marines, but I think nobody was expecting Alien Isolation to be that good. Featuring a "hide and seek" gameplay taken from games like Amnesia, Alien Isolation is a horror themed adventure you really have to play if you are into this kind of games or the Alien universe. FX, music and light effects are so good that become part of the gameplay. It is easy to be scared just because of the music, and all the atmospheric elements build up the tension needed for a game like this. I loved it, as an Alien fan and as a videogames fan.

To enjoy this heart stopping thriller, I suggest playing in complete darkness with noise canceling headphones. This is easily the best game of the alien franchise, it keeps you on your toes and has you jumping at the slightest noise.

Alien Isolation offers an intense, difficult yet ultimately rewarding experience throughout its lengthy campaign. Playing on the highest difficulty setting, it took me about 23 hours to get to the end, dying countless times in the process. By no means is Alien Isolation an easy game, however, as a result, it is an incredibly rewarding one. Playing it smart and routinely observing your surroundings will save you from otherwise inevitable death. The immaculate atmosphere, sound design, and level design are among the best I've ever seen in a game. In conclusion, this is a must play for fans of the original Alien movie and for fans of survival horror alike.
