Known for its addictive action, frantic first-person shooter combat, massive arsenal of weaponry and immersive RPG elements, Borderlands is a genre-bending (same might argue genre re-defining) modern shooter experience.
Borderlands places you in the role of a mercenary on the lawless and desolate planet of Pandora, hell bent on finding a legendary stockpile of powerful alien technology known as The Vault.

I really enjoyed this when it came out, but it hasn't held up that well. The cell shaded visuals are nice and this strange and hostile planet does hold a lot of wonders. Guns are varied and fun to shoot and distinct classes offer different gameplay styles. Co-op is great too. The game does get repetitive quickly, though.
Borderlands is a single or four player co-op first person shooter. You can choose between four different characters with each having a weapon preference and passive and active abilities that can be levelled up throughout the course of the game. You can play as a woman who cloaks, does well with fast shooting SMGs, and has passive powers with changes to apply different status effects to enemies every time they are hit. Another character can set up turrets, another can enter a berserk melee rage, and another can order his bird to attack targets. The game offers a variety of guns that can have different stats, passive bonuses, firing rates, and scopes. What holds the game back is the dull and repetitive setting, lack of enemy variety, and the poor way that the game handles co-op where due to gear, skills, and passive increases from level ups prevent people from playing together unless they remain very close to the same level at all times, meaning if you plan to play through with three friends none of you can really play on your own and join back later if you want to keep things balanced. The game offers some humor but even that was improved with better characters and missions in the sequel.
