Flight Sim World is a game with a lot of potential. It has good graphics, the developer put a lot of effort to make realistic visuals, rain drops on the windshield is simply amazing for this time. Also planes are really well made, most of the controls are working and this is amazing, but it may be a bit scary for the new players but fear not as there is a nice set of tutorials to teach new pilots how to operate the plane. On the downside there is a problem with performance as you need a beefy machine to make the most of the game. There is also a big problem with visibility in nighttime that makes the flight frustrating.
I think the main problem with this game and the mixed feelings in the reviews is the expectation created by Dovetail. I think if Dovetail had been more honest, people would have reacted differently. Why did you promote this game as a "next generation" or "major breakthrough" in flight simulation? It's not. Dovetail website reads "Dovetail Games has signed a global licensing deal with Microsoft, granting exclusive rights to develop and publish all-new flight simulation products based on Microsoft?s genre-defining technology". And that's what you'll find in this game: an improved version of FSX, with the same guts, same menus, same general feeling. Basically FSX with a new GUI, ORBX terrain, AccuFeel, and a few payware-quality General Aviation model planes. So if you already have FSX and a few add-ons, I think you will be disappointed. Especially because you'll still miss things, like jets. That being said, Dovetail did a great job. And the price is terrific. For the price you are basically getting a "General Aviation FSX on steroids", so I would totally recommend it to new simmers. As general feedback and as a software engineer, it really worries me the path that flight simulators are taking. We are now requiring users to buy a PC with a 4GHz CPU and a $500 dedicated GPU or otherwise "they might not have a good experience". However, I can run FSX completely maxed out at 1440p with add-on weather, add-on terrain, add-on airport, add-on plane, peripherals, an external program for ATC on a... 1.6GHz i5 NUC with Intel integrated graphics!!! It runs smooth and provides a great flight simulation experience. Honestly, what is going on? I thought all the bragging about using "64-bits", "completely rewritten", "new libraries", etc... would actually at least mean much better performance. But it's just the opposite. Now you need much better hardware to get a worse experience. I think the efforts are going in the wrong direction. How come are we still pressing keys and listening to robotic voices for ATC, when wecan ask Siri, Alexa or Google anything on a $100 phone? Bottom line. This is a great game for the price, especially if you are new. Unfortunately, there has been no breakthrough and the flight simulator scene has stayed where it was. But now you need ultra-powerful hardware if you want to be part of it.
Excellent flight simulator, with great realistic graphics and impeccable gameplay the truth impressed me the quality of this game despite its little publicity. I really recommend it.
