Gryphon Knight is a game that every shooter fan should try, it had this Metal Slug vibe that you can feel right from the start. It offers great pixel art graphics. The only thing you need to get used is the turning mechanics where you turn your Gryphon backward to shoot another way. The game may not be very long as it only offers 6 stages but it is so action packed you will have a lot of fun.
Gryphon Knight Epic is a horizontal shoot em up where you take the role of a gryphon riding knight attempting to rescue his friends after they take hold of cursed weapons. The art is decent, most of the enemies themselves aren't that interesting but there is good variety and the stages have good looking and more active backgrounds than what can normally be expected. When you defeat a boss you can unlock new weapons to use and between stages you can purchase upgrades with gold earned from defeating enemies or finding chests. Death will cause you to lose a percentage of your current gold and dying enough times will require to to retry the stage you died on. There are some odd decisions, instead of a smaller hitbox that you would have in most games of this style your entire character model can lead you to take damage, this would be fine but it can be annoying to get hit in an area that isn't even part of your or your gryphon's body. You also have a button that can cause you to turn around to fight enemies behind you, this is also made more awkward than in most games due to the movement of the camera, the size and hitbox of your character model, and that it can cause you to start moving in the direction of the approaching enemy. It's an alright game, though the price can be a bit high for what it is.
