Played this game for hours on hours on the PS2. On the PC this game is fun and It looks better on PC than it did on the PS2. Glad I am able to buy games from PS2 era and play them on the PC. Cons- not a new game to me so its stuff i've seen before.
If you ever complained about the racing/driving model of Grand Theft Auto games, this one nails it and makes racing really fun. There's enough of all the racing elements in open-world to keep you racing for a pretty long time. Some may say this is outdated, but for the time it was made, the cars really look great and the trade-off is that the racing really does FEEL fast.. whereas in other racing games the sensation of speed seems dull. going beyond 100KM/H really does feel fast in this game. Don't expect any incredibly complex story-lines... this is your own open-world racing story game.
A (semi) open-world racing game. There isn't much to discover in the world apart from other racers, so the game feels more like a linear racing game, rather than an open world one. My biggest gripe with the game is the outdated visuals, which is to be expected from a game released in 2003. The different races and race types are fun and exciting. In almost every race there are shortcuts and tricks to discover and learn. If you are looking for a fast and fun racing game i would definitely recommend Midnight Club II
Graphics - Looks decent for 2003 but highly outdated for 2014, runs smooth, native support for high resolutions like 5760x1080, HUD isn't centered for multi monitor displays, vehicles look similar to real vehicles but are not licensed with real names like Ford, Honda, Mazda, etc. and also no cockpit camera. Controls - Barely supports the use of a wheel, no clutch, low resolution turning axis, very touchy, braking is violent, and no ability to counter steer. Gameplay - Open world environment to explore and race around, voice acting, few short loading screens, police, destructible environment, no car customization other than single color paint, game avoids menus by having you instead interact with other racers ingame. Verdict - Seems like it would have been an impressive game back in 2003. Not worth playing unless you really enjoy old arcade racing games.
Midnight Club II is developed by Angel Studios (now Rockstar San Diego), the very same company who created the venerable Midtown Madness series, which turned racing games on its head. The locales aren't super detailed a la the Project Gotham Racing Series but all the major monuments of cities can be found. If you weren't able to tell, this game is an arcade racer at heart. Physics need not apply as you hurtle yourself over the Louvre. Infused with a hip-hop and EDM tracklist, the races are always an adrenaline rush. With non-taxing CPU requirements, you'll have no problems running this title on almost anything, including netbooks. Now for the negatives: no licensed cars (but you can generally make out what they're modeled after) and the last few races in career mode can be absolutely rage inducing. Or is that a positive?
