Original Journey is a hand-drawn 2D action game with procedurally generated levels, mech armor, and a variety of sci-fi weaponry.
On the edge of the universe there is a world that shouldn't exist. A world full of dangerous monstrosities, floating islands, and terrible secrets. Join the Ato, a race of space faring vegetation, as they attempt to uncover the secrets of Planet Shadow and harness its energy to save their dying home world.
You're a rookie soldier in the Ato army under the command of legendary war hero Captain Colin. Your mission is desperate and dangerous, but the fate of your people depends on your success. Battle your way across the ever-changing surface of Planet Shadow, improve your skills, upgrade your gear, and discover the truth behind the Ato invasion.
How far will one soldier go to save his people?
The main theme of Original Journey is a mix of rogue-like elements with what this genre usually lacks, the plotline and story related mission. Plus, somewhere between that, there is a platformer. I must say that I really like the presentation, hand drawn graphics are pretty amazing and very original. I really recommend this one, solid title.
Original Journey is a platforming shoot em up where you move from randomly generated stage to stage acquiring new equipment and resources with an option to go back to base to repair. Each stage takes place in a small arena style area that can usually be completed in a few seconds. You can gain a variety of different weapons or abilities to do things like call down turrets to fight with you. While the art is different it doesn't lend itself that well to making killing enemies enjoyable, the gameplay itself is also fairly dull, and music, sound, and level design doesn't make continually playing to try to reach new content worth it. Probably best to wait for a price drop if you are interested.
