The Retroism: Classic Explorer Pack includes three old but still enjoyable games. Sid Meier's Pirates! was originally released in 1987 with the Gold edition being released in 1994 with improved graphics and added content. Pirates is an open world game that has you controlling a privateer for the French, British, Dutch, or Spanish in the Caribbean. You are given the option to start in different time periods between 1560 and 1660 with the time effecting ships, who controls territory, and ship traffic. Random factors in the game can change the relationships of the different nations as well as the in game cities. You can take missions, fight other ships, fence against enemy captains, and lead a crew to take over enemy strongholds. A great game even after all these years. Covert Action was originally released in 1990 and has you playing as Maximillian/Maxine Remington, an agent working with the CIA to stop terrorism and other crimes. Like Sid Meier's Pirates, the game has very different modes of play depending on the actions you are taking, you will have to pick locks, plant wiretaps, decode messages, tailing cars, and interrogating people, the things that happen are also determined at random. Each mission will have you attempting to discover the people involved in whatever plot you were told to uncover and needing to discover what cities they are in, you will do this by completing activities to discover information, completing missions can get you promoted and lead to your next job while taking too long will let the criminals complete their objective and get away. It can be difficult to get used to and the action gameplay may somewhat conflict with the portion of the game that has you trying to figure out who is behind the criminal groups, you might prefer one area of the game over the other or easily forget what you were doing when you end up doing something else but it's still a good and unique game. Sid Meier's Colonization was originally released in 1994 and is a turn based strategy about the colonization of the New World from 1492 and the next 350 years. You choose to play as either France, England, Spain, or the Netherlands with each nation having unique abilities and you can choose to use either a randomized version of the New World or one modeled after America. The computer plays as the other nations and as eight different native groups. The gameplay will have you attempting to gain resources, link colonies with land and sea routes, fighting rivals, and attempting to acquire different industrial and social advances. An enjoyable game but probably more outdated than the other two with other turn based games available.
