So back in the 90s, there was this magical game I played called Final Fantasy II. Originally released in Japan as Final Fantasy IV, it was both my first ever rpg and the tool that helped me learn to read. Flash forward to today and Final Fantasy has gone through a lot of changes. What started out as a simple turn based rpg had grown into a massive franchise that encompasses many different genres. I'm not going to say the franchise lost it roots because with every change there were still things left over from the past. What I will say, however, is that the simple nature of the sprite based games were gone. That's where this game comes in. It's a return to the old days. World of Final Fantasy streamlines all the rpg systems in a way that makes FF inviting to young gamers again and those who may have lapsed due to increased complexity and time investment. Though this is an rpg that can you around 40-50 hours, the game itself is pretty straightforward. I will admit that character and stories may not be to everyone's liking but I believe this game to be a true hidden gem.
