Cold Fear is a classic title that I remember from the old days. You can describe it as Dead Space on the sea. The game has a really great atmosphere where on every turn the player must be on their toes because it is easy to die if you are careless. I'm sure that every horror fan will have a good time. Just know that there are some bad part of this game, the is a problem with the camera which on some occasion may be your worst enemy.
The unforgiving Arctic stormy seas are your worst enemy here if you're not careful while fighting the horrific monsters that lurk in the holds of the Russian whaler ship. But of course, Tom Hansen being a Coast Guard veteran means that he isn't unarmed as he has at first a pistol, but then gets his hands on a shotgun, flamethrower and many others that will help him in his fight for survival and the truth of what has happened on that whaler and its connections to an eerie and seemingly abandoned Russian oil rig. This is a must have for those who want a survival horror setting of a different kind and enjoys a good challenge or two.
As far as survival horrors go there's probably not much new to be seen in the genre. But still this game, even if not new, manages to offer something that makes it special. As you will be playing on a ship, the ship will be floating on wavy and stormy water. And, surprisingly, the ship will be rocking on waves as well and you will get to struggle against the rocking. Some objects will be swept off the deck, some may hit you or even throw you into the water if you're not cautious enough. Isn't this interesting? And believe me, it adds a lot to the game! Now try to hit somebody when everything is rocking and waving... Add to this some supernatural enemies and you have a unique survival horror that's really interesting to play.
