Uplink
Description
You play an Uplink Agent who makes a living by performing jobs for major corporations. Your tasks involve hacking into rival computer systems, stealing research data, sabotaging other companies, laundering money, erasing evidence, or framing innocent people.
You use the money you earn to upgrade your computer systems, and to buy new software and tools. As your experience level increases you find more dangerous and profitable missions become available. You can speculate on a fully working stock market (and even influence its outcome). You can modify peoples academic or criminal records. You can divert money from bank transfers into your own accounts. You can even take part in the construction of the most deadly computer virus ever designed.
- Original gameplay: Players have the opportunity to be freelance hackers.
- Freeform gameplay: Accept the missions that you want to play.
- Neuromancer rating: Let your morals guide you; save the net or watch processors melt.
- Uplink offers two totally different paths to ‘l33t’ hacker status.
- Exciting missions: Crack a bank, hack a rival into jail, crash the stock market, and get out before you’re caught.
- Thrilling action: Players have to make those last 15 seconds count and feel the tension rise, as their signal is traced.
- Deep plot: The computer underground can be a dangerous place, especially if you’ve got to stop the world’s deadliest virus.

the best hacking "simulator" out there
soad667 | Sept. 5, 2011 | See all soad667's reviews »The most enjoyable hacking game out there. The interface is quite static as you would expect from such a game. Prepare to see a lot of the same screens over and over again, don't forget that you're supposed to be looking at a computer's screen in the game after all. Missions are quite interesting, more than i expected, plus you have the option to choose/ignore them, giving a sense of freedom. Also, you don't have to worry about going in jail while trying some really "underground" stuff. Overall a great game which hopefully doesn't forget it's a game, keeping the hacking simulation at fun levels while not being extremely simple.

A hidden gem
Ascadia | Sept. 2, 2011 | See all Ascadia's reviews »Following the hollywood school of hacking while keeping a retro style ui this game is unique both visually and in game play. This is not something I could recommend to everyone but its a niche game with niche appeal and if you like this sort of thing, then this is the sort of thing you will like. The game spins an interesting story via cryptic messages and mission objectives. Uplink will give you nothing, you have to work for everything but when you begin to scratch at the surface and really start to dig the game is unlike anything else on the market. Even the "Hacker" series pales in comparison.

Hack attack.
GAMERamble | Aug. 8, 2011 | See all GAMERamble's reviews »Ever wanted to experience the thrill of hacking without actually learning a line of code or worrying about the FBI kicking your door in? Then Uplink is your game. It's not exactly realistic but that would have made it boring in any case. This game is unlike most other games I've played and once you get hooked you'll be playing for a long time. Not everyone is going to enjoy the gameplay and the visuals are nothing to write home about but this game has plenty of atmosphere and is unique.

Well, there is an original game..
Aladar | June 27, 2011 | See all Aladar's reviews »Well, there is a game I didn't see equivalent of yet (at least at the time of release..)! Uplink is a simulator of hacking in a future. Sadly, this game seemed to get overlooked at it's release, although it was probably expected.. The game puts you in front of your trusty PC, connected to your rented box that you got from a hacker corporation.. and then lets you have your way with the Web. You can get jobs from bulletins, ranging from simple "hack to x and steal/delete data from their servers" to increasingly more difficult (and interesting) jobs like hacking into social security database and changing pieces of identities. After you progress far enough, there is a story going on as well. It's definitely original and a lot of fun, if you don't mind the minimalistic "graphics", challenging difficulty and the fact that it does get repetitive after some while..

Wow Hacking Is as Easy as Drinking
virtualflyer | May 31, 2011 | See all virtualflyer's reviews »This game is one of the most wonderful you can get around here, surely the best of his category.
Now hacking looks more and more easy, but even more funny than it is. The OS is very nice and it has some cool ideas I'd like to see in ours!
It's very exciting also because you can't just sit, have a look at you mission and think. You should hurry, get it before they trace you!
It has one problem, at least at the beginning missions are very similar, but the fun is behind the corner!
Buy it, it's worth it!
