A great survival game that just needs a bit of polish

To start, Flame in the Flood was a great play through with a fantastic soundtrack. The artwork is different and pops. I loved the sound effects, the sound of the rain as it stormed, the wind blowing through the trees, the whole package. Unfortunately, the UI and some game play aspects prevent this from being a 10/10 in my book. The inventory organization is poorly optimized for ease of use. There are technically 3 different inventories: your backpack, your pet companion, and your boat, and I spent much more time than I would have enjoyed compiling and streamlining my inventory, making items stack that wouldn't normally stack, struggling to figure out what items to craft, etc. Overall, a cumbersome experience that unfortunately pulled me way from the immersion. Finally, the combat system leaves a lot to be desired. The amount of times I wasted an arrow trying to hit a wolf because I could not actually tell where I was pointing was frustrating to say the least. It reached a point where I'd only take a shot if a wolf was immediately in front, giving me a straight shot that left no room for misinterpretation. Overall a solid game with potential for multiple playthroughs (It got a bit repetitive for me at the end so 1 playthrough was plenty), just needs some much desired QoL improvements.

The Flame in the Flood is a game of ultimate survival set in rural post-societal southern America. The game's world comprises of a large overflowing river that almost completely submerged the countryside leaving only isolated parts of the terrain into islands. You play as Scout, a lone scavenger schooled in the art of wilderness survival. She's accompanied by her K-9 companion, Aesop, who isn't totally useless. He can carry supplies for her and gives her clues and warnings. Scouts journey would carry her through unfamiliar lands to find and build her own supplies from scraps she could scrounge, fight off prey like black wolves, boars and bears long enough to get away or hide, survive rainy and windy nights til morning and conserve her food and water for long tracts of barren terrain. You can build new tools and weapons to help make her journey easier, and also create traps for predators and/or prey. Traveling down the river to different islands to scavenge is dangerous for Scout, and the current is strong enough that there is no going back up. The raft she built is extremely fragile and hitting pieces of debris in the water or getting caught up in the rapids can damage the raft profusely. She can loot places like churches, and camp sites and possibly meet a person or two. She can craft medicine to heal her wounds caused by predators, and cook different types of meals/snacks by a campfire to fuel her for another day down the river. The Flame in the Flood is well crafted entry in the survival genre that has compelling gameplay, beautifully designed graphics and a stellar soundtrack and I recommend it for all survival game fanatics.

its nice game of aventure

The Flame in the Flood is waiting anxiously and now I can say with all certainty that is all I expected from the game, it is a great adventure and survival game in which you take control of a boy and his dog where you have to Navigate a river and reach different locations to get materials and food to survive day to day, what I like most about this title is the fact that climatic factors have an important factor in the game as well as the creation Of objects that help us to survive, the truth is that it is a great title worth buying

Beautiful and atmospheric setting with excellent music hurt by a cumbersome interface

The Flame in the Flood is a Kickstarter funded rougelight game developed by people who had previously worked on Halo, Bioshock, Rockband, and Guitar Hero. You play as a woman who is traveling down a river with her dog, you need to find food and crafting material in order to survive. Your raft can be upgraded over time and you will pilot it down the river while attempting to avoid obstacles, landing at designated spots to search the area for needed supplies. You have the usual stamina and food based bars to manage but you also have weather and clothing effecting your body temperature. Inventory needs to be constantly managed with you having access to what you are holding, what the dog is holding, and what is stored in your raft when you are nearby it. The inventory is poorly designed with a UI and mechanics that have you constantly needing to bring it up and look through multiple menus to swap items between locations, craft the right things, all in a fast moving real time setting. Making this worse is that you are forced to build or move next to a fire in order to craft, these locations are not going to be close enough to your raft to make use of all three inventories. Items don't stack properly. It would also be nice if you could speed things up by quickly crafting the items that need to be built in order to create a more advanced item, assuming you have all the needed minor supplies. Dying will have you return as the same character and you will carry over the items that the dog was holding, making death less interesting and worry worthy than games where characters that you have a connection with can be lost. There aren't many options for crafting and it can often be better to flee from combat to attempt to make your way to the next available location. The game takes place in a post apocalyptic United States and the environments can do an excellent job with a bleak and run down atmosphere, but they can also be beautiful to look at with a nice color palette. Weather effects and animations also look good, the only negative I found was the odd look of the main character. The ambient sound of the environment and the noises of animal life are excellent, the soundtrack is also a high point of the title. You can play the game with a story mode or in an endless mode.
