The game takes place over multiple generations, you control a character who is joined by three women in each generation, the scenes you see and options you choose will cause them to like you more or less. At the end of each chapter of the game you will choose one of the three women, in the next chapter you will control their son who will inherit different skills and know how to use different weapons based on who the parents were. While this does mean that you will lose characters over time, you are also joined by longer lived people who will be a part of your group through the rest of the game once they are recruited. The game is lengthy and does a decent job at catering to people who want story, gameplay, and occasional scantily clad anime women. The battle system is fun but can start to get repetitive and eventually is very heavily focused on you needing to perform combo attacks in order to do high damage, as enemies become extremely powerful and can easily kill your individual characters. Unless you use a guide you aren't likely to know about how stats work or what pairing with certain characters will do.
Tiny battlefields, fighting the exact same battle throughout the entire game, dull storyline, personalityless and drab dialogue. Fights take way too long because they want you to buy DLC packs, which then makes fights meaningless. The dating/alignment system is a complete afterthought with decisions having unpredictable results on both. "Where should we go? Through the mountain, around the mountain to the north, around the mountain to the south?" Can you guess which choice will make which girl like you more? Can you guess which will make your alignment darker or lighter? Of course not, there's no damn correlation at all. And I'm not leaving out any context here, you don't have to stomp a box of kittens to go north or anything. It's just senseless.
It's about time that PC got its own quality Tactical RPG. Agarest is anime-themed and has a lot of plotand dialog much like Disgaea. It's not quite on that level, butit's still very good. The art is nice, though the coloring seems faded. The story is good and the dialog is fun and amusing. The combat isn't the most innovative, but it's solid TRPG gameplay. Definitely worth picking up if you enjoy or are interested in this kind of game.
This is a tactical strategy game, which also has heavy influences from visual novels. It also has some dating sim parts. The graphics, presented in Anime style, are lovely, and nicely designed. The story is not much, but is nice. The combat system is very good and satisfying, especially combos. The design of background sometimes gets boring and fails to please. The music is nice, and really immerses you in the game system. The DLCs are also really good. I'd say 8/10, for fans for tactial rpg's or anime styled games.
