The first DLC for an incredible RPG, but maybe a little overpriced

LightWolfDM

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Dawnguard is the first DLC that expands the magic world of Skyrim that Bethesda created for us. Vampires has invaded the land of Skyrim and a new faction comes to destroy and end the vampires once and for all, the Dawnguard. You can join the Dawnguard to stop the vampires or join the vampires themselves and help the vampire leader to complete his mission, also turn yourself into a cool full vampire. With new hours of gameplay, new weapons, new NPC's to meet, new areas to explore and new story to immerse yourself into, this DLC is worthwhile if you loved Skyrim. Recommended.

Incredible expansion

Dave24

Nobody was expecting anything better than Shivering Isles from Oblivion as far as DLC goes. Dawnguard was incredibly nice surprise, because it surpasses it in every way imaginable. The new weapon, crossbow, is awesome, plot is really intriguing and awesome, with interesting choices between vampire hunters and vampires, fleshing out the latter a little, which is actually great. It even gives vampirism a new, really awesome meaning. It is also pretty long and full to the brim with content. If you liked Skyrim, this one is absolute must, because it makes already great game even better.

Great expansion with real vampires

lconanl

You could already become a vampire in normal Skyrim (just like the other Elder Scrolls games), so why bother, right? The answer is simple: without this expansion, becoming a vampire is just another gameplay element; now, it is a much better gameplay element (you can become a vampire lord) with actual depth added to it. This DLC expansion adds eveything that you could wish for after finishing Skyrim: more story, characters, lore, locations, enemies, items, weapons (particularly, the crossbow), magic and other powers. While much could be said about each of these elements, it's better if you experience them yourself. I'll only note that early in it's story you're presented with the choice to join one of 2 factions: the Dawnguard (i.e. vampire hunters) and the vampires themselves. Each of these choices comes with at least a dozen hours of gameplay, so it's certainly something to consider when buying. Needless to say, you won't regret buying this DLC after the 20 hours (at least) you'll spend exploring every aspect it adds to the base game. Elder Scrolls fans won't want to miss this one.

A great new companion and the revamp of vampires

heerox328

Dawnguard is without a doubt a great expansion. You have the choice to either join the vampires, or the Dawnguard. We also have the greatest companion BGS has ever created: Serena. We have an engaging tale with moth priests, elder scrolls, and plenty of dragons. The only criticism I could have is that Dawnguard doesn't actually have any new territory to explore as it merely takes place in the base game environment. Overall I enjoyed this even more than Dragonborn in some respects. I should also mention that Vampire Lord was added, a much more powerful and deadly transformation than just standard vampirism. Vampire Lords also make werewolves seem like child's play. This expansion is a blast and I highly recommend it.

Good DLC with a nice theme

Murderbot735

This review contains slight spoilers about things early in the DLC. You start of as a recruit to the vampire-hunting organization "Dawnguard". They give you the new weapon - a crossbow, which is pretty cool - and send you on a mission. Then it's up to you too choose if you want to join the vampires or stay with the Dawnguard. Both sides have their HQ, which both are huge castles that look really great. I kinda liked the vampire's place a bit more, especially since it had slaves that you could drink blood from. That's an instant 10/10 in my book. Anyway, the storyline is pretty decent and I love the vampire them. The new places look great, and the enemies are interesting. Fighting as a vampire lord is cool, but I don't really see how it is better than the werewolf. You're extremely week during the day, and can't really get rid of that fact completely. The mounted combat isn't that great either, but at least it's better than being completely defenseless while on the horse. Overall this DLC is fairly good. It isn't a must-have and it doesn't add that much, but I found it enjoyable. But if you for some reason would just want one single piece of DLC, Dragonborn is so much larger.
